While working on my 911 SC project I was stripping the paint from my fron trunk area. Here I noticed under the paint a very rubbery substance? It appears to have been srayed on as a primer but is very thick, almost foamy?
I have stripped all of this stuff off the metal along with the paint. My question is, what is it? With what should I replace it with? Is it necessary? Let me tell you this stuff was a pain in the wazzoo to remove!!!!! Thanks for the help, Ben in SC |

Possibly a coating to deaden noise, or for thermal protection of the gas tank or maybe a undercoating to protect against rust?

I believe it is called "Sitenschlag Texture Coating" and the SC's come with it applied to the underside ofthe bonnet and also the underside of the front guards.
Probably heat insulation ... imagine anything in the trunk area in the hot sun without insulation. |

Yup...its sound deadening stuff. It sprays on black and then you paint over it, sort of like rock chip, but not as hard. I replaced it when I did my collision repair. Any auto paint store should be able to get it for you. Take a handful in with you.

Hello
There is a Antisteinschlagmasse ( Gravel protection depending on year PVC or Bitumen based ), the Antidröhnmasse ( Sounddeadening ) und die Feindichtmasse ( finesealing ). Teroson ( Dow Corning/Henkel ), Sika Chemie, Würth, Scholl or Berner have the things in there catalouge. Only the finesealer needs a speical application tool. Ask your painter about the usable combination as some things will buble up the new paint generation. Grüsse |
