I have a oil problem, its not exactly a leak as such, the car is a 1970 911e 2.2l with MFI. When the car is hot after driving for about 30 minutes oil seems to be forced out of a drain hole on the bottom of the air filter housing (which is feed for an overflow pipe connected the oil filler pipe)covering the top of the engine. I have drained the oil and measured the number of litres just in case there is to much in it in the first place. I have refilled the car according to the workshop manual and the gauge and dipstick show the correct level when the car is idling. I have also replaced the type of oil to Mobil One Semi synthetic 15-40. I originally thought it was down to the car running very rich causing petrol to wash down the bores past the pistons and mixing with the petrol, thus increasing the volume but the car is running extremely well with both the idle and main richness very close be being spot on , I have checked all the pipe work for blockages etc..Has anyone had this problem?

You say the level is correct with the motor idling. But did you check it when the oil is HOT?

keep the hot oil level 1/2 way between the high and low marks on the dipstick. raise the vent hose from the filler to the air cleaner. you might have to get a longer one to do it. install a baffle in the vent hose that keeps liquid from blowing thru. SCs had them, as well as others.

Thanks for the reply.
Doug, I have checked the level after a long fast drive through the mountains yesterday, the level was just touching the full mark on the dipstick. I have install an overflow catch bottle as a short term fix. The overflow pipe has been lenghtened and held higher than the filter. So far about 1/8 of a litre has entered the bottle. |

Just don´t refill until you reach the low mark. Even then the car can be driven with 5 L but gets very hot.
The only reason for constant overflow is to high levels ore to much pressure in the gasket. IF everything else is proper. As you descripe it the hoses sits correct and the brass mesh flame stop insert sits in the filterhosing intake. Grüsse |
