I'v got a 73 911e that I just put the rebuilt engine in and when I added the ten quarts of oil from the box we started the engine up for the first time and ran it up in temp then checked the oil to find it one quart low on the stick.
the book say's ten qts, Is this the wrong dipstick,Wrong tank or did it drink that quart? |

Sounds like you did everything right. With the engine warmed up the oil level should be midway between the high and low marks on the dipstick.

Just guessing here. Has anyone added an external oil cooler which would account for the additional oil required.

OK, banger ... the 10 liters (about 10.5 qt) is the refill, or change quantity after an oil change. All of the 'missing' oil went to fill the oil cooler, galleries, and pump ... and it does NOT get drained with the oil in the sump!
And, there is absolutely nothing wrong with running your oil level in the lower 'third' of the dipstick marks range! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Hello
Well after rebuilding the engine sucks 0,5 L into all the oillines and gallerys. Another 1-2 L goes into the front oilcooler. Middipsticklevel is optimal. Only if you have cooling problems top up to the max. High level will increase oilconsumption. Your dipstick can be crosschecked with the cataloge. Grüsse |
