Fuel pump he questionlp

If I jump the fuel relay with 87a and 30.
Turn on the ignition.
Push up on the plunger it should spay??
I looked for a trouble shooting tread and did not find one.

I just replaced my injectors and seals two weks ago.
Ran great.
Put back in garage.

Son killed the battery with interior light trick.

Charged the car.

No fuel.

Help!

John,
I am subscribing as my 78 died in the driveway yesterday.
Sounds like fuel pump but my back is too sore for me to even spend any time on car.
I hope you get it running.
The weather is just starting to get nice.

John,

Bridging terminals #87a and #30 (FP relay) with ignition switch turn ON would cause the FP to run continously. Lifting the air sensor plate or FD plunger would cause the injectors to spray fuel provided you have sufficient system pressure!!! What's your system pressure? Did all 6 injectors fail to spray fuel? What year/model is your car? Keep us posted.

Tony

Tony,

When I do the jump 30 and 87a the fuel pump does not come on in any key position.
Sorry for the confusion.

Also does not matter if I lift the plunger on the CIS.

Fuel Pump ....

John,

Check your fuel pump. You will hear it make a buzzing sound when you bridge #87a and #30 (ignition switcn ON). If the pump is not making any noise at all, it could be dead or not getting power. Check the voltage across the FP terminals.

Bentley manual has some pictures showing the FP on pages 201-10, 201-12, and 201-14. HTH.

Tony

John, I once had a situation where a piece of crud got into the pump and jammed it. On the bench, I was able to restart the pump in reverse, while applying compressed air to the outlet, and never had an issue afterward. Check the fuel tank strainer for blockage and any rust in the strainer outlet cavity. This area is often neglected on our cars.

or measure the pump's power terminals (if the fuse is too hard to check),..It will verify the entire power path to the pump..

I'd check the 25 A fuse first...

2 cents.

Pressure in the fuel lines doesn't mean that the pump is fine, it takes several hours (sometimes days) for the pressure to go down. On most cars if you turn the key to the run position without starting the car you can hear the pump run temporarily. Might even be your fuel filter or fuel tank too. Hope you fix your problem.

i use a razor blade to widen the pins on the relay for a good electric connection. The pins have a slot.

The final link in the chapter.

Well I started the car up friday morning (Beauty day to be alive)
Runs perfect down to the gas station for a fill.

Go to start. No Start. Jump the relay to listen for pump. No pump.

SH___T!
I can't beleive I let myself beleive it fixed itself.

Cal Lordco. they have a Bosch pump in stock.
$180.00 with my buddies discounts.

Have BCAA tow the car home that afternoon (two Blocks).
Get under the car and have the new one in and runing in about 1.5 hours.

WAY QUIET compared to he old one.

Had it out Saturday with the boys and it runs great.

It probably doesn't hur that I did the filter, injectors, seals, and injector sleeves all tis winter.

Thanks all for your help.

This chapter is closed.

John,
glad to hear it all worked out (eventually).
Do you have the Bosch part # by chance?
Cheers.
