Houston Tranny Clinic, April 26th, 2008
Well, the votes are in! The clinic will be April 26th, starting at 9:00AM
Can someone make this a sticky? We will be tearing apart a 901 transmission. If you ever wanted to see the inside on one, now is the time! The 915 is very similar, but a bit beefier. I have a 915 which we can also pull apart. We will put the mystery and myth of the 901 behind us. It is much much much easier than rebuilding a 911's engine. Part one, dis-assembly. Or, Crap! Where did that roll to? Part two, inspection, along with some differences between the different types of 901. The good, the bad, and the "OMG did that come out of a running car?" Part three, put the new parts in you have and can afford, and how to live with the rest. Part four, re-assembly. Tips, tricks and how to keep the blood sacrifice to a minimum. It usually takes me about 5 hours to do a Tranny. I expect us to take a bit longer, as we'll be talking, staring, looking, eating burgers, drinking beer etc. If time permits, I'll show you how to align the shift-rod and gear selector. This will be on a 914, a 911 will be similar, but easier! And maybe we'll look at rebuilding the gear selector, the source of a lot of shifting slop. I have someone who is rebuilding a 901 from a 914. If someone wants to rebuild a 901 from a 911, please contact me, as this will help the demonstration. Now, a few have asked my if there is a fee for the clinic. No. BUT, I am riding in the MS150 (see my sig) and I think a donation is better, for both of us. We both get the satisfaction of helping people with MS, and you get a Tax write off as well! How many times can you say that! I would also suggest people bring a supply of their favorite tasty beverage, maybe some hotdogs & buns, burger & buns, chips, soda, cigars and firearms. ![]() To sign up for the clinic, please chime in here in the thread and click on the donate link below! http://www.ms150.org/edon.cfm?id=211867 Thanks, James aka Red-beard And yes, it really is red, or used to be.

x2. Another MS150 rider here...sucks to see the GP cancelled...what better change of plans than to tear into a trans. Looking forward to it. All other longhood owners out there... you have to make the RGruppe/EarlyS Hill Country Rally the weekend before (4/18-20: http://home.roadrunner.com/~topdown93/2008_hill_country_rally.htm). Would be nice to meet you ahead of the clinic. ![]() |

Bump for a good cause. I wish it was for a 915, I'm trying to learn how to do mine. Heck, I may still fly in to come participate also.

Great idea - for those of us that cannot be there, would you consider pics/narrative of the clinic to share?
Maybe even a video? Rob

Directions:
#1 - We live in LAKES OF ELDRIDGE NORTH , NOT LAKES OF ELDRIDGE. LOEN was started 2 years after LOE and they are not connected. Related, but not connected. If you turn into LOE, you are in the wrong neighborhood! The easiest way is to take I-10 to North Eldridge Parkway, drive north to Tanner Rd. Turn right on Tanner (You'll see a CVS, Shell Station and Jack-n-the Box). Drive to the Entrance of Lakes of Eldridge North, Ginger Ponds road. Check in with security (I'll provide a list!). If you are coming from Austin on US-290, exit Eldridge (just after TX-6 and FM 1960), and go south until you reach tanner. Turn left onto Tanner (You'll see a CVS, Shell Station and Jack-n-the Box). Then follow above. If you are coming from Dallas, depending on where you live, you can take I-35, then TX-6 (at Waco) to US-290 (at Hempstead). Follow the directions from Austin. Alternate Dallas: I-45 South to Beltway 8 (aka The Sam Houston Tollway). Go West on the San Houston Tollway. You will pass 2 toll barriers. After the second one, take the second exit for Clay Rd (yes there are 2 exits for the same road). Go through the U-Turn and head back up the access road. Turn West onto Tanner. Ginger ponds is about 2 miles down on the right (north). Turn Left on Ginger Ponds and follow the smaller map to: 12415 Rosa Ridge Lane. PM me for my phone number Do not believe any mapping software. The other entrances to the neighborhood are closed to all but residents. ![]() ![]() If you will be using Beltway 8, you have to get off at Clay rd (either direction), then drive to Tanner. There is no Tanner exit or entrance from the Beltway. Once on Tanner, go west until you see Ginger ponds drive (you pass through some pretty industrial areas!) and then follow the smaller map.

Darn. I also live on the NW side of town (Cypress), but will be out of town that weekend. Let me know if you re-schedule of if you are going to do another clinic sometime. Also, let me know if there are any guys out here on this side of town who get together from time to time and swap notes on their "P" cars.
Thanks, Roger

Sound like a good day. Will do my best to be there -- as long as my job doesn't take me out of town that weekend.

I'd be guaranteed to buy a video of this (flying in from Vancouver, BC, is a little unrealistic). I have a busted 915 that I'm looking into rebuilding, and have no idea where to start.

I've got it on my calendar and plan to be there. Never seen a 901 up close and personal. I'm just south of you at 1- 10. Ken

Looks like I'll be in DC that weekend. Maybe my transmission and a box of new parts could go in my place

I bet you could sell some videos of this. I'd be interested in buying one. At $15 a pop you could make some serious $ to donate to next years MS tour. Good luck on the ride, and thanks for sharing your knowledge of the 901 and 915. The more people you educate the more likely it is I can find someone to help when I run into trouble.
