In the last couple of months a strange and intermittent problem has popped up on my car.
When the car is hot and I go to restart it, it seems to miss for about 10-20 seconds and it also will idle about 200 RPM's lower for this time period. It then recovers itself up to the normal ~950 RPM's and will idle smoothly. Stepping on the gas a little seems to accelerate the recovery from this condition, this part makes me think it may be fuel related? Plugs are new, cap and rotor are good, timing is right, valves are set correctly. Anyone have any ideas? Hi Nick, Having some strange startup problems too. Mine when cold though. I am running with heater on WUR unplugged right now. Mine starts right up but then idles way down in about 30 seconds and really leans out and runs rough with the WUR plugged in. With it unplugged it starts fine, takes about 3 or 4 minutes to idle down to 900 or so but no rough running during warmup. Looking through the Bosch CIS book, it seems the auxilary air valve might be causing both our problems. If it hangs open on your hot starts it could cause rough running. If your bypass hose on the aux valve is still pretty pliable you can pinch it off and see if the miss goes away. The book warns of brittle bypass hoses on our older engines, so be careful.
