vinyl spray!

ive gotten advice on removing the side script. now for a real serious question. the previous owner sprayed the original black vinyl dash, package tray, door armrests with dark blue vinyl. all these pieces are in excellent condition with no cracks, fading, or tears...this was done in the early nineties. anyone with experience removing, or is it possible without damage to the original vinyl? i suppose i could respray it black, but i prefer the original if possible. car is a 1972 911T in very good condition. thanks for any help!

If you re-spray, use SEM black. It is fantastic.

Look at 88clubsport 's pics

You could also try various cleaners/paint removers on an inconspicuous place to try to get the blue off.

the othe problem could be if you have a leather dash (rare), what works on vinyl might not work on leather without damaging it.

vinyl spray

I did my dash with SEM vinyl spray. Make sure you get the SEM vinyl spray prep. Lightly sand the dash, spray the prep, wipe off and spray the SEM finish in thin coats. I put about 4 coats on my dash, let dry between coats, tack between coats. Came out great.

Ethanol or iso-Propanol may be effective at removing paint without damaging the underlying plastic dash.

Good luck!

I have had good luck with duplicolor. Do not use the rustoleum fusion paint on vinyl!! Works great on plastic not vinyl. Trust me I know!!

Check out Craig's job - SEM vinyl spray on his car.

Page 3 and 4 on this thread. I've seen it in person and it is fantastic. Really.

Time to paint the SCarrera

If it were me, I would redye it black instead of trying to remove the old dye. Redying works very well-you would never know that the blue was on there. I'd be concerned about damaging the vinyl with anything strong enough to remove the blue dye.
