New Clutch Install Problems.

Recently installed complete super clutch kit from our host on 1984 911. I cannot get the clutch to release completely to shift. I have adjusted and readjusted and cannot seem to get it right. I guess that I may have installed the clutch improperly but I'm not sure what I may have done wrong since the installation seems so straight forward. I have search this forum and I have tried everything that others have done but I am having no luck whats so ever. I would appreciate any and all advice that you may have.

I can feel the clutch fork pulling on the throwout bearing when I stick my finger through the access window.

Is there a lot of pedal free play ?
With the motor running does everything sound ok when the pedal is pushed in ?

yeah everything sounds fine. I've been looking at the pictures on Wayne's how too section and I think I installed my clutch fork upside down.

If you put the car in 1st with the clutch in at a standing stop and start the motor does the car want to move forward ?

your clutch pedal may be bent forward. it has a Z shape and bends at the center part of the Z. if that part looks twisted, there you go. the roll-pin that holds the pedal to the shaft can partially shear also.

The car will go forward if started in gear. I will look at the pedal to see if it is bent. but I'm kinda leaning toward the fork being upside down. Has anyone done this before?

no, the roll pin would not go in.

1st adjustment is at the bolt to get a slight amount of clearance there. pry the two levers apart with a screwdriver to remove any slack and then do the adjustment. 2nd adjustment is the cable which when tightened, raises the pedal engagement point, and vice versa. when it's right you should be able to grab the little accordian cable boot at the rear and with some effort, pull/push it side to side about 1/2" to 3/4" or so.

I checked the pedal it appears to be fine. I will try the adjustment method you suggested tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

Dropped the motor today and found that I did install the clutch fork upside down What a rookie!!! Anyway, everything is back together and working like a champ. I'm going to start another thread with pics etc. Thank you for all of the help!

how did you get the roll-pin thru the fork and past the shaft if it was upside down?

I used the force......... I have made a mental note not to work on my car late at night anymore.
