Post Seal replacement

Folks,
Has anyone replaced their headlight chrome ring to bucket seal and the tail light seal? If so, do you have to use glue to set them, also what is best way to remove them? Thanks

I did mine a couple years ago. The old ones just pulled out. And I didn't use glue to hold in the new one either. As straight forward a job if there ever is one.

No, the headlamp bucket seal doesn't need any adhesive.

The first time I serviced the tail lamp housing, someone had already used some 3M 'yellow goop' on the seal. Since I had some of the black 3M 8011 weatherstripping adhesive, that is what I used, and it works great!

Thanks guys,
I tried to get the chrome ring off but may have to use a putty knife or something to pry it loose, same for tail light seal as its very old rubber and kind of stuck in place.

I don't know if this applies to your car (I have H4s - euro car).

I couldn't get them to fit - it was very very difficult to get the lip of the chrome trim to catch on the tiny tab on the rim of the headlight bucket.

So I kinda gave up, and ever so slightly trimmed the top of the seal where the tab was. This WORKED, although others may consider it to be cutting corners. What I couln't believe is how much the original seals had compressed in the last 25(?) years.

Cam,
I notice the same thing as my seals are 27 yrs old and kind of melted into place. If I hook the upper part of the ring over the lip then the screw hole doesn't line up, if I put the screw in first I can't get the ring over the lip I'll try again this evening and hopefully won't have to ask my wife to help although she keeps walking by shaking her head at my colorful expletives.
