I hate to say it, but have you checked your clutch adjustment? Mine went to crap like that and I found the clutch stop nut had come loose.

I know this is frustrating, but a worn out 915 isn't the end of the world. They are kind of the weak link in these cars. You can rebuild it with some patience and the help pf this board. Check out the thread "can't shift into first" by rcecale:

I rebuilt mine by replacing about $1,000 in worn parts. Now it is better than ever. Even better than a "rebuilt" tranny I bought for much more.
