I bought a set of Sparco Allroad seats a year ago and as soon as they arrived, it dawned on me that they would be difficult to get in and out of. My car is a daily driver; guess I thought I was speed racer when I bought them. Meanwhile I have yet to install them.
Anyone daily drive with racing seats? If so, do they bother you or does the fit outweigh the in and out? I do like the fit of the Sparco's, just can't imagine squeezing out between the seat and the steering wheel multiple times throughout the day. Thanks, Gordo

I have used race seats quite a bit on the street. Very comfy.
The biggest downside is on long trips, a properly fitting race seat holds you tight enough that you can't squirm around. After a long time sitting, it's nice to shift around a bit. Race seats are designed to prevent that. Some are more difficult to enter/exit than others. You simply have to try a few out. For a while i was using a car with a full cage. With low door bars, the car was still easy to get in and out of. It never bothered me. YMMV. |

Recaro PP and yes is a pain in the a..back the enter/exit in short trips and if you need to go down the car severals times in a short period of time you going to hate them.

I had a deep Corbeau bucket seat in my car when I purchased the car, it was very comfortable but I had to slide it back to get in then slide it back and forward to get in and out of the car, became a bit of a pain in the end, so I swapped them out for a pair of Corbeau recliners, which still have the cutouts for harnesses.
Much more practical and also gives better access to the rear seat area. |

I commuted one fall in a loaner F Stock '87 Carrera (race car) for 6 weeks with cage/race seats/ 5 pt harness. Wasn't that bad. Might be hot in the summer though.

We have leather Recaro Pole Positions in our 73E. I don't daily drive this car, but we drive it around a fair amount, including a 6,00 mile road trip around this time last year. I'm OK with them, and my wife thinks they are the best seats we ever had in the car. We can individually set up the desired amount the lumbar support in our seats. That's a big plus.

Whilst not a dedicated, race seat, I have a pair of these Rallye ST's in my 69T. It is my only car and drive it every day. They are fixed back. I have a cage so I dont use the back seat anyway. Climbing in and out is a learned technique

I drive my '76 with Sparco EvoIIs almost daily. Getting in an out is the hard part (mostly because I'm 6'3") but once I'm in, they're perfectly fine. I've driven hundreds of miles at a time in them (from Huntsville, AL to Daytona and back for example) and aside from some additional lumbar support, they were great.

see thread titled "1500 mile trip..."
In a Recaro SPG used in a long trip, as Dantilla said, not much wiggle room in there. However, not a daily driver, but I do drive it quite a bit on the street, about 3 times a week now that weather is better, as long as it's dry.

Just drove 2500 miles in 3 days, and am now commuting daily about an hour in my Rec's. I was initally worried as well, but the support is awesome, and i actually get less back fatigue than in my 350Z.

I agree with the above. I have never been more comfortable than in my Pole Positions in long trips....

Targa's were made for fixed backs.
Right foot in, grab hold of the windshield frame, swing yourself in, lower down. Super comfortable, great support. ![]()

don't overlook the fact that most fixed back buckets do not have a padded headrest. lightly bang your head on that and then think of what it'll feel like in a read end hit.

while i think they are super comfy, getting in and out is the only real pain. i think i would shred the bolster in short order. in my coupe, i really have to slide in and out.
harder to wedge a cup of anything in the crotch too. ![]()

Some good comments in above posts
my 2 cents Having done multiple rallies, road trips with sparco evo seats, it gets to be a pain. A proper race seat holds you in very tightly. This means your body ends up comforming to whatever the base is under the foam. Not everyone is built the same, so pressure points arise and you can end up in some serious pinching of muscles and nerves. That being said, you can mitigate a fair amount of this by installing more foam under the seat pads for street driving. This raises you slightly in the car, relieving some of the hip and side pressure in the "race" position. We have used egg crate spongy foam (like hospitals use for longer term patients) and it helped immensely in the 1000 mile Iron Bottom rally this year. Our tail bones were not bruised and hip muscles were enjoying additional support Removable steering wheel helps a lot with in and out of the car. And race seats sure remind you how out of shape/ overweight you are too= good motivation ! ![]()

I've had Pole Positions in two cars, which I drive/drove daily. I love them. They are not difficult to get in and out of once you get the technique down, even in a suit. And they are extremely comfortable, even on long trips.

I had Sparco EVOs and they were very uncomfortable because they were too narrow. I switched to EVO2s and I am very happy with them, on the track and on the street.

I have fixed back race seats in all my cars ( bar the stock 69E ). My daily driver is a 968CS with OEM Pole Positions. I do find when I'm really tired getting out can be a pain, or when exiting after parking on a steep up hill. Other than that though, I think they're as comfortable as any other sport style seat.

Thanks
Great input,
I will give them a go at some point this summer. No point in letting them sit in the basement getting dusty as I consider the idea I guess. Gordo
