Well I got to drive a 911 with a G50 tranny. It was very embarassing to drive getting into first gear. I stalled the car 5 times. It was difficult CLUNK, CLUNK, CLUNK, CLUNK motion. Did I do any damage? Realized I had to hold the clutch in a little longer than my other car and ease off it. My heel had to be locked in at a certain spot to depress the clutch. I need a lot of practice.

Sounds like you drove a worn-out example? My G-50 is so smooth I don't even have to think about it.

The G50 has been the easiest clutch I have ever used. So friendly. |

Believe it or not, this old racer and multi Porsche owner had an embarrassing first mile or two with the G 50. Now, I think it's the best.

The thing I love about my G50 compared to a 915, it is very reliable and predictable. There are NO surprises with a G50, it always goes into gear with ease.

The clutch on my 88 Carrera with a G50 has a heavy feel, and it's brand new with all the upgrades. Before the clutch replacement it was very heavy and not near as smoothe.
Sounds like what you have is normal.............................. ![]()

First time I drove my G50 I thought I would need to have calf implants to drive on a regular basis. I found it took quite a bit of effort but now it is smooth as butter.

Did I do any damage to the gears or tranny? The car jerked forward with a big CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK and stalled.

The G50 in my 911 would clunk from time-to-time coming out of first, especially when cold. But after installing a new clutch it's smooth, quite, and percise.

Another thing that can really help the G-50 is a transmission fluid change. Mine went from smooth to ultra-smooth.

Just curious... what's the cost of converting to a G50 from 915?

Nah, you didn't damage anything.. bulletproof tranny
Call me crazy, I dont like the notchy shifting of G50 and modern transmissions... the 915 is a PITA but when you get it just right, it has the hot knife through butter type feel.

If the throwout pivot isn't correctly lubed (and you have to go on a major quest for the correct lube) and the pedal bushings aren't up to snuff it will act as you say. If it is correct then anybody can drive it.
I have the stiffer Kennedy Engineering clutch in mine and my wife drives it easily. When I first bought my car the stock arrangement with the upgraded cross shaft was like pressing on a brick wall. I cleaned, replaced parts, and relubed twice before I got serious and found a good lube and it has been fine since.

Sounds like maybe the clutch wasn't fully releasing. The shift bushings can make a huge difference too. Get a few miles under your belt and it's as smooth as butter

10K? It doesn't fit. Problems with your 915? Then better have it checked out.

It's intense. Search beaublues above for his conversion thread. I did the welding and fabrication of the various gussets and plates. Basically, you have to cut out the center section of the torque tube and install coilover suspension.
