MotorMeister ad dropped from PCA Panorama magazine!
Hi All,
Was flipping through my Panorama looking for a deal I had seen on a set of H4 headlights when I noticed something missing. For years, that MotorMeister ad for $2995 engine rebuilds has annoyed me every time I've leafed through my Panoramas, but now it is conspicuous by its absence. Out of curiousity I looked at the advertiser list in the back of the past few issues and it looks like they dropped them back in December! So did PCA finally drop the MM ads due to reader complaint letters or did MM decide to advertise in other mediums? Does anyone more closely affiliated with PCA know the story? Lately they've tried YouTube videos to advertise, of course with the engine's tailpipes out of view: Motormeister videos In any case, I will feel much better about renewing my membership this year. I know some of you cancelled your memberships because of the MM ads. PCA has a lot wrong with it, but this is definitely a step in the right direction and hopefully they will be rewarded for their decision, if in fact it was theirs. |

My guess is that PCA dropped them. Those ads in Pano, IMO, gave them a lot of credibility to many people, and must have been pure gold for MM.

Hi Jay,
I mentioned this a few months back. Its good news. Maybe Vu heard the rumblings of the disatisfied members... Troy

Maybe Vu bought a sixer for his 914 or sent a member there that he actually knew and he got screwed.....nothing like real life experience. It's about time they dropped those douche nozzles.

In the past Vu would ask for verifiable first person stories and not passed on stuff to support the complaints. I don't think he didn't believe the stories but needed a case to present. it's the responsible thing to do i suppose.
perhaps verifiable stories were presented.

why does pca need so much info in their membership application? Like VIN number and stuff. Kinda made me go "hmmm". Why do I need to list the make model and year of all my Porsches? It's not like their advertisers get the anal rectal probe treatment or anything.

I always figured they need that info to verify that you actually own a Pcar. Or maybe it's just Big Brother watching...

Porsche, unlike other owner clubs like Ferrari, requires ownership to join.
Every year I'm torn about whether to renew and every year I renew late and tell PCA why. Maybe all of our protests have done some good. ![]()

I dunno maybe it's just me, but I got real tired of reading Pano years ago. The tech articles were lame/non-existent (that's why I'm here!) and I got real tired of seeing the cover story "PORSCHE WINS LE MANS" every year only to read inside that a class win had been scored in GT-ZZZ for 85 year old or older drivers - and the car had place 732nd overall...

When I got my first Porsche a little over a year ago I joined the PCA. As a current and long time BMW owner and 23+ year member of the BMW CCA I expected a great monthly magazine from the PCA as well.
As most of you know Pano does not even come close to the Roundel. Needless to say I was disappointed. I get the feeling that Pano is more of a social thing rather than being more into the cars themselves. The tech is very lame and light. Oh well, maybe an ex Roundel officer could infiltrate PCA and change Pano over time. Wishful thinking I suppose. In any case since there are so many quality magazines on the news rack on Porsche I can more than get my fix of Porsche info besides this fantastic site and even Rennlist is OK. David

I'll third the vote for Roundel. I actually read some of the articles in Roundel and it's refreshing to see club magizine that's not afraid to expose problems with the brand like Roundel does.

Does anyone know whether you have to be a member of PCA National to join a local chapter? I agree with most here that Pano is not worth much, but I thought it was a requirement to be in the National PCA to join the local, which is required to participate in DEs and/or Club Racing. True?

Roger 911...
You have to join through PCA National... PCA National assigns you to a local chapter closest to your home address... or, to a chapter of your choice.

I figured that was the case. I joined in '96 and never really gave it any thought, just paid the national dues and the Chicago region dues every year.
