Use two open-end wrenches, one for the lower part closest to the fuel distributor and the second on the upper part closest to the 90-degree elbow. The goal is to hold the lower part more-or-less in place while loosening the upper portion relative to it. I find it useful to position the wrenches so they are about 30 degees apart relative to one another so I can just grasp them and squeeze together to "crack" the friction between the two - it's fairly ergonomic that way otherwise you end up needing one hand for each wrench and two more hands to hold the thing steady. . .
Just be careful not to twist the line. Once in a great while the parts will get fused together due to age/corrosion and if you accidentally apply loosening force to the lower part, the entire assembly will try to rotate and you'll kink the line. It's rare, but something to be aware of. You might try shooting the connections with PB Blaster and letting it soak for a bit prior to loosening if you're paranoid.

When I did the o-rings on injectors and sleeves this seemed like a good idea until one of the sleeves cracked while I was pulling on the wire:
![]() I was able to pull the rest of sleeve out and saw a small piece missing. Taped a small diameter clear vinyl tubing to a 12V car vacuum and went fishing. After about 30 minutes I got the piece out, made sure there wasn't any more piece missing and finished the job. If it crumbled and all the debris fell into the intake then it would be a bigger problem, but if it was like my case then try vacuuming it out. Just make sure you have all the little pieces accounted for.

Are you saying that the injector sleeve pieces are now in the cylinder head? If thats the case you need to remove the intake runner and get that stuff out of there.

Try what Won did: attach/tape a small nylon hose to a vacuum cleaner nozzle and suck the debris out.

If you can be sure that it's only two pieces then do what Gunter suggests, if you can't account for all of the pieces you will need to remove the runner. To do this you can loosen the runner's rubber boot, remove the two 12mm nuts on the intake side, and loosen the other runners up on that side of the engine. You can then shimmy the runner up and off.

May not be that easy because some of the clamps on the rubber boots are impossible to reach.
Supercarrera: I suggest that you stop replacing the injector sleeves because you'll just repeat the same thing on the others. Wait until the whole CIS has to come off; then install the new ones. But, if you continue, at least soak the old sleeves with penetrating oil for a couple days before you pull them out. Also, when you use new O-rings, put some Vaseline on them before you push the injectors in.

I did my injector sleeves last month during a clutch job. All new sleeves and o-rings. The trick to getting them out is to grind off the staked aluminum in the runner holding them in. I removed the CIS system and did each runner on the bench. They are stubborn to come out even unstaked. Wish I had that fabbed tool Won made.
Good reason to take of the CIS to do it- there'd a lot of oily debris in the runners and some did fall in the intakes pulling it. Shop vac sucked it out.
