Rough Day for Elephant Racing

First, I should say that Chuck is made of sturdy stuff. He walked away from one of the biggest shunts I've seen on the track. The car isn't so lucky. Turn 8B got him coming out of the esses at Sears Point yesterday, and I mean GOT HIM. He was very lucky indeed, and I'm glad to say he came through with nothing more than a sore neck. Chuck, I couldn't take my eyes off the skidmarks for the rest of the race weekend. I'll never take that turn quite as fast again. Glad you made it out OK brother.

Some pics taken by Trekkor:

That's Chuck watching her burn.

and on the flatbed

What you can't see is that he hit the wall so hard on the driver side rear that the windshield blew out, as well as all the gauges.

Sturdy is right, he's already talking about building up the next car.

A car can be replaced but people cannot. Glad to hear Chuck is ok, that is the corner that catches a lot of people out along with 10 when you run fast 9. If you dont nail the entry to 8 then 8a will let you know very fast. Were you guys running fast nine or slow 9 (9, 9a)? I was planning on watching the racing this weekend but wound up working the scca race at Laguna Seca. The next car should be faster!

Damn! That looks like a hard hit, and I mean HARD. Glad he walked away alright, I can almost feel his frustration in that 1st photo with his arm up on the guardrail just watching in agony.

Chuck, I feel your pain! I rolled my car at the track last year and was lucky to walk away unharmed - so I really know how you feel. The most important thing in these situations is that you are OK. The car can be replaced.

Wow. Very sorry to see that. Glad that the driver is okay -- I don't know what we'd do without Chuck -- but ouch; that was such a beautiful car.

Man, I was just showing a budy the "buid-up" of that car on Chuck's site. I was pointing out how great the wheel wells look. Sorry to see one doesn't look so good now.

Glad to hear you are ok, Chuck! If you do build a new one (as if you wouldn't) I hope you post the project for it, too!

Chuck, I am very glad to see you are okay. Sad to see such a beautiful car go away. I had a similar incident on track last month (not nearly as bad) so I feel your pain.

We had some mild shunts at Mid-Ohio due to rain at the vintage races . Nothing like this .

Very glad the injuries were minor . Please post pics as the build begins .

Wow, that was a hard hit! Glad to hear the driver walked away.
He will be feeling that one for a few days, but I hope with no lasting problems.
Nice looking car too! Was it quick?

Wow! Glad you're OK Chuck, such a beautiful car to lose, but that's not so important in the scheme of things. Good luck!

Good to hear you can walk away from something like that Chuck.

Given your health, this is just an opportunity to build another car.

That's not going to buff out - glad you are OK chuck - better to watch from the wall than from the ambulance.
