How to build a nice "S" version of the 2.0 engine?

Hi,

I've found a nice SWB car but the engine is a 2.4.
I would like to build a vintage race SWB (a mid performance car).

Which engine would be the best to start with?
Would a 2L T do the job?

I'm thinking of the following parts:
balanced crankshaft
high compression piston (maybe 81mm)
S camshaft

I don't know about the cylinder head to get big valve?
