Should I buy this one?..

Hello..

I just need some asistance...

Im about to buy this beast...

1975 911 Turbo?....

It is a convertion performed by i dont know who, and according to the dealer, runs smoothly but yet hard....

Any one can recongnize the work or else the shop that performed this convertion...

Since Turbo is such a delicate matter involving many engine parts and stuff i dont want to buy a problem...

Any help will be very appreciated...

MiCk...

I'd suggest you consider buying a differerent car. I'm not liking what I am seeing in the pictures.

The fact that you're having to ask should tell you something.

I like the use of the threaded rod and angle aluminum holding the intercooler down
There is nothing delicate about this car and I do not think a "shop" did that to the poor car.

Yea but the good thing is repair parts can be purchased at any Home Depot. Offer him 5K and spend the 2K to have all sorted out...?

I see Euro heat exchangers, a nice front mount oil cooler, quality oil lines for turbo oil feed and drain and oil cooler, some Bilstein HD's, factory 930 intake manifold ( and probably intercooler ) etc.

The only 'issue' looks to be the kinda strange intercooler bracket.

With the attitude of most that have posted and the fact that they would run away because it has a home depot bracket, you might get yourself a bargain..

What is really important is that you have a PPI done with a leakdown test etc.

+1 what Craig said.

The passenger-side H/E looks to be damaged? They're the same as 3.2's, and there's piles of 3.2/930 H/E's everywhere...

Is this car silver, with a duck on it? And narrow body? If so, it may be the ex-TRE car that sold on the classifieds here for about $10K - in a heartbeat or three - a year or so ago.

I see what looks to be good quality tires. You'll probably find that 255's are the minmum you'll want at the back. What flares are on the car?

I'd question the elimination of the turbo drip tank - it's there for a reason. There's a screen in there - read the recent thread on the 930 forum about coked oil from the turbo return clogging the rocker spray bars.

But both the stock turbo sump and the intercooler brackets are readily available for peanuts used, as they're always removed for upgrades (most performance headers won't permit the stock drip tank) - I have both languishing in the garage right now, for example.

Is this a 3.3 or a 3.0 930? Or turbo plumbing bolted onto something else like an SC?

I have no idea what the 3.0 930's look like, really... A bone stock 3.3 930 is a torque monster - and a real hoot in a light car.

Is that a 930 gearbox I see lurking in there? If not, it's a later 915 that's been fitted - my mag-case 915 was almost black. The 5-speed 915 is a hoot - 0-150 with lots of sound and fury - but you really need an aluminum one - as late as possible - a WEVO bearing retainer is a really good idea, and ideally an oil-pump unit with internal spray bars. And you'll need to read up on how to keep it alive, because a 3.3 will trash it in short order if you don't. The factory believed that the 915 wasn't strong enough to deal with the 3.2 remember... You'll consider every penny on an LSD well-spent if you do the above, too.

The other questions you need to ask are what other suspension upgrades have been done, and what brakes are in there.

The stock '75 brakes might as well be made from chocolate for track work, for all that the factory fitted 'S' brakes to the 3.0 930 up until 1977. They're considered barely adequate for road use. Even though your car should be at least 300 pounds lighter than some 930's, you might want more margin on that...

I have 3.2 Carerra brakes and 21/30 torsion bars in mine - rear-end squat on acceleration with stock turbo lag was still very pronounced. Upgrading the headers/turbo largely gets rid of the lag - and then the squat is bearable, although the correct solution is to add RSR-style coilovers in "assist" mode.

I'd buy it, if the condition and price were right. O, wait, I already bought a car almost exactly like that...

If you want a "sleeper" that is ridiculously fast, but doesn't look like it should be, this could be a great car for you. I love that.

But do realise you might find it hard to sell, should you tire of it.

If you want a 930, a car you can sell fairly easily or don't want to complete the inevitable development, go buy a standard car.

Being this is a 75 - and it's a conversion - maybe a 2.7?

When I see stuff like the Home depot intercooler bracket and the right side fan shroud block off (is that a paint can top) I always ask what else has been short cut.

Is the heat exchanger on the right supposed to look like that? It looks like half of it is torn off!

Have someone (P- car mechanic) look it over, there are a few red flags. The heat exchanger for starters. Good turbo cars are hard to find. Good one's are great. Bad ones can be a real mess that will relieve you of cash. They are easy to buy and harder to sell. Caveat emptier

Run. Do not walk. If you ever decide to sell this car, all potential buyers will be asking the same questions you are asking now.

Ain't that the truth! After seeing the first pic, I wouldn't even bother to ask "what else". Run away!!!

Cool looking car from the sale pix, wish I had seen that last year for 10k...this looks like a fun car, worst case and you blow the motor, the rest looks solid, at least on the surface?, toss in a 3.0 with webers and your back in business. at 14k it's a little less of a deal though, there is a guy selling a nice sc with a 3.2 here for a lot less than this car..- no affiliation, just noticed.
