1982 911sc surging

I have an '82 SC that has recently developed a surge at idle. I can stop the surging by removing the oil cap. The oil level shows that it is pegged high but the oil level on the dipstick is within range although on the higher end but not overfilled. Any ideas?

Hello Rick! Welcome! Most around here really like pictures, so make sure you post some soon. As far as your problem goes, almost sounds like a vacuum issue from what you are describing with the oil cap, but I am NOT an expert. I am sure you will get plenty of help soon, but until then, read over this thread as Souk is one of the good guys when it comes to CIS stuff. Good luck!

Take the car to a shop and have the CO checked and adjusted. The car sounds like it is too rich. When you uncrew the oil cap, you are creating a vacuum leak that introduces additional air into the engine.

If the surging problem is new, you might want them to dig a little further to see what else might be wrong, as the mixture should remain relatively stable on a car without other mechanical problems.
