original interior
just purchased a very nice 72T and wish to return the interior to original appearance....previous owner of 20 years decided early on to spray black vinyl parts dark blue and to replace original carpet with a matching dark blue medium pile carpet. door panels were also replaced with blue fabric. all this was well done and in excellent condition...but! i am not interested in replacing with original materials and hence very costly, but rather an interior that approached originality in appearance and function. i also do not want to use the lightweight door panels... thanks for any advice especially the type or color of carpet and who sells to DIYers...

You might be able to remove the blue dye using a solvent. I've doen this before with a mix of laquer thinner and mineral spirits. Test it first and use only as much as you need to remove the color. You don't want to damage the original material. Lot's of companies make carpet. Call Pelican and see what they sell.

IMO, bring it back to original spec - it will look better and help add value to the car. You can find what you need using this board, Early S Reg, and ebay. I would suspect that you can do it fairly reasonably if you have patience and persistence. Good luck.

If you're interested, I've got a nice pair of black 72 door panels which have not been cut for speakers.

Bob at APPBIZ here
If you are serious about fabricating your own carpet set from scratch we do have our OEM match Dark Charcoal Perlon felt available by the running yard. We also have the full carpet set ready to install available. Installation is a big enough job to tackle, you might be best off purchasing the kit. The Standard coupe set for your car in perlon and the RS style set (rear seat/1/4 panel/rear deck delete) are generally always in stock and ready to ship Bob 310-834-3600 bob@appbiz.com |
