Until, then, you can read Grady's comments (post #17) in this thread comfirming that the '69 901/13 is magnesium: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=261323&highlight=grady+magnesium+ trans |

The other number is the serial number of that particular transmission, which you can use to determine the model year it was produced. JR |

MY69 the crankcase was changed to die cast mg MY70 the transmission to die cast mg. Both Frere & Ludwigson & contemorary literature will back that up. Here is a pic, from left, al. G50, mg 915, mg 911, al 901 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212772109.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212772138.jpg This last one is from the other end http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212772157.jpg Of course it would still be interesting to see yours |

Interesting... I'd like to see those pics also.
But we have bifurcated the thread... The poster has a Mg cased type 911. It is a similar, but beefier, design to a 901. They are so close that the gears will interchange with a 901. BUT... the clutch arrangement is markedly different from the simple clutch actuation used on the 901. He needs to go thru the entire outer cable (sheathed) and check its position and ease of sliding. It has to make a precise "bow" or loop as it passes alongside the case. Does anyone see anything off in the pics he posted? I'm not one, but some are expert at getting these funky 2-years only things ironed out... |

Well isn't that something:confused:
once again the vagaries of the Porsche production line rise up and bite. This has happened so many times, they must have run out of al. cases towards the end of the '69 production. The did the same thing in '77 when they switched back to al. |
No general rules for the 911....
James - a friend of mine has swapped some of the gears. |
I am the original poster. I have a 902/1 aluminum cased transmission.
