Need a 901 pic please
Things don't seem right as I try to adjust my clutch on my 901 transmission. I have installed engine and trans from diffterent cars and think something I may be missing something. I took the car for a few rides and on my last trip the cable seemed to come out of adjustment (had to limp home in 1st gear).
I am particularly interested in how it attaches to the shift fork and the adustment points. |
search on my name + trans for a variety of them
AND.... are you sure it is a 901 and not a 911?? post the year of the car, and the type ID on the trans. |
you know a 901 was actually the first model of the 911. anyone with a picture of the 1964 french car show car for this guy :D
|
901 is the trans type that has the first gear over and back in the same plane as third and fifth. Reverse, second and fourth on top....

Anybody? It would help a ton. Thanks
RWebb I searched your posts and couldn't find the picture I needed. Yes, I am sure it is a 901. |
I assume it has a cable with a locking or double nut on the end? Can you adjust it back so that the clutch works? If no locking nut get one...it's just moving....
Or does the adjustment have no more threads on the cable? IF THAT is the case, either the cable is too long or the tube in the tunnel is broken loose from the welds. |
Well, I see 2 problems.
1. The method of how the cable is locked. The adjusting nut looks odd, almost like it was modified or incorrect altogether. It is bullet shaped, can't find a part like this in any catalog. 2. Cable seems too long by 2-3 inches or so. Actually rubs on my the hard oil line that goes under bellhousing. I assume that this rubbing is what brought clutch out of adjustment. |

explain what you mean by "Shift fork" and maybe I can find you a better pic or diagram
|
That is a picture of a 911 transmission, cira 1970 and 1971 only.
|
yes - the pivot is ~1 cm offset from a 901; and the pivot of the shift fork differs slightly
|
I meant clutch release fork. I would like to see a pic of a 901 transmission with the clutch cable mounted. I am trying to figure if my cable is out of spec, the hardware is wrong, or maybe the routing was incorrect
|
a pic of the cable attached to the other end of the throw out arm?? that is the arm pictured above
I do not have a stock setup to show you -- for that you'll have to search Here is the 911 trans. again - it is equipped with a 901 style setup - note how the cable is mounted you probably need to post pics of your setup... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212729920.jpg |
Since I'm getting mixed up on the transmission codes as I always thought I had a 901, here's my serial no:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212738862.jpg Is this a 901 or a 911 then? ttw, I'm posting a few pix I have of the clutch cable near the transmission for your convenience: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212738936.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212739334.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212739743.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1212739863.jpg |

the 911 was a stronger development of the 901 used for '70-71, it has a die cast al case(later changed to Mg & 225mm clutch 915 was introduced for '72 w/ the new shift pattern, 225mm clutch & mg case |

The magnesium case came out in mid-production on the '69 901 still using the older style push clutch. |
Isn't the 901 what they used in the 914's? Maybe search there. Mine isn't available for pictures right now.

The change from 215mmpull clutch to 225mm push clutch corresponded to the introduction of the 2.2L engines for MY70&71 & the trans. case changed from al to mg sometime in this series production(C series) the '69 change(B series cars) from sand cast al. to die cast mg was for the crankcase not the trans case |

I've got '69 magnesium case trans sitting a few feet from me. 901/13 from a '69E which also had a magnesium crankcase. |
