Brake calipers on a 1971 911E
Were aluminum front calipers stock on only 911S's, or also on the 911E?
Also, were the front Al calipers and Steel M calipers interchangeable? |

Aluminum calipers were required with the special hydopneumatic struts used on the 911E. They have 3.5' caliper bolt spacing. The M caliper has 3" bolt spacing, so they are not interchangeable.

I really appreciate the clarification. I thought that I had read somewhere that the aluminum calipers were on the 911S, with the steel ones on the 911E and 911T models.

It depended on the year and option package

Hydropneumatic struts were also an option on the 69S, "Self-levelling Front Suspension $85" and came with aluminum calipers. (first line on window sticker below---need to zoom in)
