3rd gear question
Once in a great while, the shifter becomes difficult to get out of third gear. im not sure how to better explain this. for example, if im driving along in 3rd and about to need to slow for a stop, the shifter will be quite hard to get out of third. it will come out but its abnormally difficult. on occasion, i have simply left it and stopped the car with the clutch in and upon restart, got the car slightly rolling in third and the shifter will come out fine
the car has a new clutch and rebuilt transmission done by a very skilled mechanic. there is no problem going into any gears. any idea of what i should consider? i have not looked at the shift coupler or shift rod bushings and suspect this is where i should be looking? again, this only happens very rarely, perhaps 3 times per season of driving. thanks edit: oh, and when i do forcefully pull it out of third while moving...there is no grinding or other unusual behavior...just a stuck feeling

What transmission do you have?
As you stated this only happens in 3rd so I would think the coupling is fine. Almost sounds like the slider for 3rd/4th is hanging on 3rd, if this is a 915 trans. Have you taken this back to your mechanic?

thanks. im gonna research what you mention.
no..the PO had the work done a year before I bought it. im not much worried about this...mostly curious as the 915 trans shifts 99% or more of the time, very well

Mine does the same, and I've trained myself to take it out of 1st and put it into neutral before coming to a complete stop.
