if you want opinions on what color to paint your car, or what do you think of these wheels or which muffler to get, this is THE place to be.

I have the answer to ALL of your questions, but you have to post a picture of your car first.

freshly rebuilt motor !! It has been in non-op. From what I understand it needs 1000 miles on it before it gets tested. If not it could be flagged as a gross polluter????

Motronic is pretty clean running. Assuming your car has a stock engine with all of the stock smog equipment, you should pass right out of the box. You could always get a pre-test to see what kind of emissions your car is putting out. That would be a good idea.

Was anything special (out of/beyond factory spec) done to the motor in the rebuild?

then I think "the" nailed it. put another way, if your car were brand new from the dealership (as it mechanically is now, and looks to be as well), it would have to pass smog before it rolled of the lot.
