"S" Caliper rebuild question
I disassembled all four "anti-knockback" units from my caliper pistons before I noticed that the little copper sleeve that sits in the back of the unit (the cup with the spring in it) has a groove on one end. As a result, I don't know which end goes into the unit first--the end with the groove or the end without--but I assume it matters or Porsche wouldn't have added the groove. Can anyone help?

search members for Eric_Shea or Bill Verberg and PM for a quicker reply
I remember looking at that myself, but cannot see what difference it makes.

I took a look at two I had handy, the groove is only a short slot and both were 'in'.

Thanks DJ--I did find Eric's post on the early911S board, and this photo suggests that the groove side is "out" (if we're communicating):
![]() I have sent Eric ("Neunelfer" on 911S) an email. I'll post if I get confirmation.

For posterity's sake
Eric's answer is that it really doesn't matter. The later units don't even have a groove. If you care anyway, however, put the grooved end in closest to the pad--the opposite orientation of the photo above.
