They're gonna put me in the movies..

Well, my '70 S Coupe actually. Last week here in Austin I started getting calls from friends and shops that know may car, saying that a movie crew is looking for a really original, really nice early 911 Coupe for use in filming a pilot here.
After a few days of my own unavailibility, due to work related issues, the deal is done. I am taking my baby to a north Austin mansion where it will live for the next 10 days or thereabouts.
The show is to be called "Swingtown", and all I know is that it takes place somewhere in Michigan (!) in the mid 70's, is about the wretched excess of the time, and the hero drives my car
I get to hang while the car is in use, and get some very small portion of the bucks invested back, for their use. I guess if the show is picked up, Keller could have a gig for a while..

Hey Bill, that is really cool! One of my 'aims' for my car is to get it on film, and I will probably register it with the appropriate agencies over here sometime soon.

Hope to see that pilot at some stage mate. If you manage to get a copy of it, stick the bits featuring your car up on youtube

Be sure your insurance will cover you if the car is damaged or if they hit someone. Also, your agreement with them should provide that they will name you as an additional insured on their policy, and that they are liable for any damage caused to or by the car.

Good question - The only day the car will be driven, I will be there as well. Car is on a $3,000,000 blanket liability policy, it's condition going in is documented by a ton of digital still by me and the car casting guys, AND they have given me an agreed value policy covering any damages repairs up to $50,000.
The price od fame is a little worry, i guess. Ia ctually just drove it in the RAIN to the set and locked it in a garage until Tues AM.
Hope it all works out.

Remember the scene in Ferris Bueller when the Ferrari went out the back of the Chicago parking lot, do they have the keys??

Just kidding, enjoy the notoriety.

Its sounds good Bill but be vary careful. I let one of the studios use one of my 911's before and they didn't really take very good care of it. I did stay with the car. Most of the time they will fix anything they broke but thats not the point. I have heard other horror stories from friends and others in the car club.

Like Jack says don't let it out of your sight.

Goodluck.

To a film crew your car is just one more of a million things that are around a set when they are shooting. They won't intend to abuse it but they also won't look at it with reverence like any average person who sees it in a parking lot.

I would take a lot of extremely detailed pictures of EVERYTHING so you can prove that any ding or nick wasn't there before. I would also find out ahead of time what they would do if there was some damage. They may have 3 mil in insurance but when was the last time that anyone saw an insurance company do the right thing without being bludgeoned by a lawyer first?

Jack Olsen knows about this type of thing. Tread carefully and don't assume anything.

Be careful and do not let it out of your sight... I still remember the thread on VWVortex of an VWR32 used in the last movie of Herbie... If I remember correctly, they trashed the transmission on that car...

If you let the car out of your sight - guaranteed damage - over the course of 10 days. Be prepared with documented, dated digital photos.
If the car gets "picked up" for a series you might as well kiss it goodbye. Selling the car to the production co is the only viable option with regards to "hero cars" that are used regularly in a series

Make sure there's no fine print obliging you to let them use the car for the series, in case you change your mind. Not even sure if this is a possibility, just crossed my mind as I was reading. Hope it works out, sounds like fun.

you pull the driver aside...placing one arm over his shoulder and pointing to your car with the other you say.." you see that car over there, well it means all the world to me. I just want you to know that if anything should happen to her that I've got no problem going back to prison."

Bill,

Can't they use your Silver '69 Targa instead of the coupe? I hope it all works out and this has a happy ending.

Hi Bill
I make TV commercials for a living and I do tons of car commercials each year. If you would like to PM me I can talk you thru the process. Its not as bad as people are making it sound.
