I am pretty sure it the interior heat sensor (Thermostat)
|
It's wired into the thing between the seats that doesn't do anything either.
|
great! another climate-control thing. you know, I counted the other day. there are NINE different climate control levers and knobs. I like german engineering, but seriously, NINE!!??
|
...and don't lose that because they are NLA. I had to track down a used one for 75% of the new list price. I THINK it works, because when I first turn the heat on in the morning I get warmth, then after several minutes I can hear the servomotors on the heat exchangers whirring and the heat delivery tapers off.
|
those servomotors, are they what makes that lever between the seats move as if posessed? I had to keep a copy of the heater control diagram from the owners manual in the glovebox of my '73. with this car I may just drive it in summer. I think I have the A/C figured out. :D
|
Yea, I imagine it would. I have the auto heating system, no levers... just a knob. But the only way to control heat getting into the cabin is to open and close those rotary valves at the heat exchangers. That's what those levers between the seats do. I didn't realize that auto heat control came with the lever type. Wacky!

The cars with auto heat also came with a lever that was to be used if the auto heat controller failed. To use it, you had to remove a screw in the side that connected it to the servo linkage.
These systems really aren't all that complicated, guys. Most of the questions I see on this board could be answered by reading the car's owners manual. JR |
My 1980 euro SC has the compass installed there... I will get a pic up later but that is where its at.. just went out to verify.. yes that is where the compass mounts.. our camera is full of andretti karting pics from last night so its going to be awhile till i can get a pic loaded.
|
Compass? That sounds like an owner-added aftermarket thing.

here is the pic of the compass
hope this helps.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1213715056.jpg |
hey Java,
remember these are euro cars, their roads dont go east/west like here in the states.. haha... seriously though I dont know if its an owner add on deal or not.. I just got this car last month and havent researched that kind of stuff.. it is coming off and in a box anyway, she is going on a diet starting in july.. It would be interesting to find out if this thing was from Porsche or an add on.. if nothing else just to have that additional piece of info on the cars. thanks, david |
Part of antenna assembly on RoW coupes (I think). I removed mine and the part in question when I had the car painted. You can see it hanging down in the middle picture. My car never had automatic heating to the best of my knowledge.

That's an add-on. Somebody shoved it up into an interior temp sensor for a car with automatic heating. Hope they didn't screw up the sensor, those are hard to find.

Factory antennas were in the fenders. If you had a manual antenna, Porsche put it in the left fender. If it was a power antenna, it went in the right fender. The ones in the roof were typically cell phone antennas added by a shop. I never figured out why they typically drilled a hole in the roof to install those. Over here, we used the kind that glued to the glass and "transmitted" through the glass to a base glued on the inside.
I, too, have removed one of those infernal things from a car and welded the hole shut. JR |
my antenna is in the left front wing.
I will pull out that compass pronto. I am taking out the auto heat later this year anyway, BUT any way to determine if the sensor is functional ??? thanks, david |

So THAT'S what the hole in my headliner is for!!! I've been wondering for a long time.
