Question How much oil??

I was told to put 9 quarts of oil in my newly re-built 2.2, but on the engine stickers is says max 7, min 5.....and it is currently leaking oil (over filled?).
How much should I put in???

Start with eight.

Run it up to operating temp, 180', then check oil with motor running and car setting level.
The correct reading is to be in the middle of the high and low marks on the dipstick.

911 oil systems with only the engine mounted oil cooler hold ~9 quarts of oil. With a front mounted oil cooler and lines, 11 quarts.

This means you should need to put in 9 quarts total at oil changes when draining the system (or 11 quarts if you can blow out the front oil lines like ER's pressure valve system).

If you have not just drained the oil, then check it on a level surface, engine idling and at operating temperature. Don't drop the dipstick

Add oil as needed to stay between the marks. I would go for about 2/3 full

You should see my garage floor.

Just do the leaks as you can address them. The valve covers will never be completely dry. Rear main seal requires engine drop and clutch removal. Don't go too crazy. Just work on it at a comfortable pace and don't get too frustrated or overworked.
