Sold the 87 and replaced it with this...

Sold the 87' and replaced it with a 95'. I like it but not as much as the 87'. This car is no where near as raw or as fun to drive. Too late now though. After 4 months I'm starting to get attached but it's not the same. I'll be pre-89 owner again someday.

I too sold my 87 for a 993. I agree with the first impression - too plush, too quiet. But the scads of low end torque and power are fun. Mine now weighs less than my 87, and I assure you is more raw and fun than my 87 ever could be. Keys: Weight loss, no airbag wheel, weight loss, stiffer suspension (looks like you have M030? or PSS9)?

Nice looking car. Here's mine:

I hope this thread continues...........I have an '85 that I'm selling. I hope to continue my Porsche odyssey in a 993 S2 when I can afford it. To this end I would love to know the caveats
and pitfalls as well as cost of ownership issues involved in a move like this.

Thanks,

Scott

Love the white and black! Good to hear I can make it more raw. I think I just need to get used to having power steering. I am amazed at this car on the track, you just point it and it just goes where you want it. Weight loss is on the agenda and maybe a new wheel, I like that idea.

My suspension is not the PSS9. I can't remember what Bilstein package it is. It was described as one step away from the PSS9's. The car goes from Seattle to Belleve twice a week so no PSS9's quite yet.

Familiar trend- I'm selling my '89 targa so I can buy a 993 C4. I love the targa, and will miss it, but only being able to drive it half the year drove me nuts! Love the MY02 rims!

Cheers,

Paul.

That is a beautiful car. I would try not to compare it with the '87, but appreciate it for what it is. A very nice car!

The car looks great! I love the grey wheels on the blue. If you really are not happy, I have an '89 Carrera that I'm contemplating selling....maybe we can work out a trade of sort

The car looks great and appears to be nicely setup. Just because it's more relaxing to drive, doesn't mean it's less capable.

I think that is a great looking car, I would love to have one. Before I bought my 911 I had a '95 968, it was very different from the 911 but really fantastic and fun to drive in a more modern sort of way. I wish that I still owned it, but there is only so much room for cars at my house.

You think the 87 was raw you should try a mildly hot rodded early car or even an SC. The late carreras stock are almost piggy by comparison. :-)

I love the look on that car, the 02 wheels look better on 993s than 996s. Its too nice to beat on. Get an SC 'driver' for those days when you want raw and use the 993 as a nice weather commuter.

This is why we put the 993 engines in early cars...talk about visceral...

Interesting thread. I have had my 89 911 for several years and have always wondered about the C2 / C4s. I have thought about getting one on many occasions. Can you guys (who have owned both) offer more details on the differences you noticed. I guess I could test drive one but I am curious not so much from what is better/worse but just a description of performance / handling / feel characteristics (if that makes sense). Thanks, Andrew

What's more important though, raw capability, or the "feel?" My PO purchased a Boxster S after selling his car to me, said he ended up hating it.

I'd rather go slow while feeling like I was hauling ass than the other way around.

I have had a 944 and a WRX but now drive an '84 911 Targa - which as of this weekend finally seems sorted out....

My main reason for the '80s 911 was to get to the RAW essence of Porsche and it clearly provides that. The 944 was a perfect point and shoot car - it would absolutely go where I wanted it to, shifted beautifully, felt unbelievably balance, BUT it did not provide the same visceral experience. I never felt fully in control in the WRX - the turbo was fun but there was never a "connectidness" with the road when driving it.

My 911 is noisy, requires two hands on the wheels at all times, has plenty of torque on demand, looks great, and requires full attention all of the time. And that is why I bought it....

I plan on adding a more modern 911 to my stable in the future for longer trips, safety, comfort, power, easier / "better?" handling and DE track days, but with only one fun car, I am glad it is an '84.

Pleaes note however that your '95 is fantastic looking - so enjoy!
