83 911sc Cab Wet Sanding Question

I Have A 1983 911sc Cabriolet, It Had A Professional Bare Metal Repiant Some Years Ago In Original Platinum Metalic, The Drivers Door Has Since Become Hazey Or Clouded, The Rest Of The Car Looks Factory New, Is It Too Late To Wet Sand The Door? I've Heard Of Color Matched Wet Sanding? Clearly I Don't Know Where To Start. Thought Of Having The Door Repainted But Am Afraid Of A Color Match Problem. I Have To Point The Cloudiness Out To People Before They Notice, But Once They Do They Never Miss It. Suggestions ???? Thanks , I Would Post A Picture But Honestly I Don't Know How To Do It, Comptors And I Just Don't Get Along Thanks Again

Is the color OK?

Is it just hazy, but still as smooth as the resto of the paint? Or is it rougher to the touch?

Without a pic, hard to tell.

Maybe a clearcoat failure? (Assume it's a clearcoat job). In which case you'll have to repaint.

Is it only the door? The whole door?

Strange.

Probably won't hurt to colorsand, compound and polish. See how it looks.

It Is Just The Door, And Yes It Does Seem To Be Perhaps The Clearcoat Fialed For Some Reason, It Is A Little Rougher Than The Other Panels, The Rest Of The Car Is Fantastic, Not Familiar With Any Type Of Wet Sanding, Maybe I'll Try A Compund Like You Said And Then Wax, I Think I'll End Up Having To Paint The Door And Hope They Can Match It Up Pretty Well, I Just Hate The Thought Of It Looking Worse, As Crazy As This Sounds I Can Deal With It Being A Little Hazzey And Knowing Thats What It Is, But A Color Match Problem Would Drive Me Nuts, Maybe The Door Had To Be Redone Due Too A Scratch Or Dent After The Rest Of The Car Was Painted, Took The Inside Panel Off And There Is No Sign Of Any Indentation Or Accident, But Unfortunatly It Covers 80% Of The Door Only The Ouside 4-6" Arond The Perimeter Of The Door Look Great. I Have It In My Head That Platinum Matallic From '83 Will Be A Hard Match. Thanks For Your Input. Bob

Don't wax yet. Try compounding first to see if it's better.

If not, do an easy color sand. Use 2000 grit paper, wet, use a block so you don't get finger groove in the door. compound again.

Don't wax until/unless you think it's done.

Could be as simple as someone touched the door while it was wet and left a handprint; redid it and didn't get a good clearcoat.

Matching metallics is difficult. No idea where you're located; you dont have it under your name. There are shops around that advertise that they are great at matching. I had very good luck w/ one here.

Thaks For Your Help, Located In Saratoga N.y. Just Above Albany, Looked Real Close At It And It Does Appear To Be The Clearcoat, Perhaps Just As You Said, You Can See It Ever So Faintly Where The Clearcoat Did Not Adhear Correctly, The Cloudiness Is Actually Patchy Small Ereas Or Good Then You See Other Areas Are Cloudy, Looks Like The Clearcoat Has A Little Orange Peel In It, Around The Edges Of Where The Cloudy Patches Are, Again Only On That Door, Absolutly Nowhere Else. Thanks

SC Cab

Good luck with the wet sanding. 2000 grit wet works well but don't be over aggressive. Great color. Lets see a pic of your. This is one of mine last fall/winter.
