wax residue on rubber

Hi folks,

Just waxed the car and got some of it on the rough rubber smile at the front, and rough rubber round the door handle. Any tricks on removing the stuff? Excessive rubbing pretty much shredded my cloth.

Thanks,

Babak

Get some Prepsol from the auto parts store. Removes oil and wax without hurting rubber or paint.

I use a brand sold in most stores Kleen strip wax and grease remover. Use a soft tooth brush and gently soak and work the remover into the area's, occasionally drying and checking. Don't be afraid if it leaves a drier finish when done. Use your preferred dressing afterward.

Doh, Kraagens has neither Prepsol nor Kleen. I'll have to go back and see if they have Meguiars rubber-care. Thanks folks-

I have read that peanut butter works, although I have not tried it. Make sure you remove all of the pb, just in case your trim contacts someone w/ a nut allergy.

it does

but... if you are concerned about mice, or squirrels etc. then I'd avoid use of a strong smelling, high value food

same goes for teenagers - you never know what they are gonna do... esp. if hungry

Funny you should mention that....somehow my 'wax removing' peanut butter recently made its way back into our pantry. Teenagers will eat anything.

Kurt V suggestion should work

I suggest you look into other brands that will not give you that problem, I find it amazing that people buy a product to remove the wax residue from the trim when there's products outthere that will not do so

3.2Carrera

You want a product that will “protect the surface, a product that creates a UV barrier to prevent premature cracking, fading and hardening, a wax product all do it may shine the trim is not design for that purpuse.

Regarding that Txxx brand- I usually keep my findings for my self, but please allow me to share my own test, the test was a result of a “discussion” about Carnauba and Polymer wax (that’s another subject all together) so I decided to purchase 5 products, the test was simple, pour the same amount of product ( I use a tea spoon ) and place them side by side on the trunk of a rental car, the ambient temperature, trunk lid temperature and many other factors were recorded, that morning the ambient temp was 56F, at 3.00 pm the trunk temp was 156F, that test proof to me many things. by 6.00 o'clock the product was completly gone.

I have provided a photo of tha product, I did many other tests and the results clearly shows that particular product do not perform as advertise, still you find people that believe that the product is indeed a good product. I guess is all about choice.

I don't get the test. What were you testing for?

Are you saying that one product's carrier completely evaporated and the others were still liquid?

If so, there may be a thin film of UV protectant on your spoon. How do you know there is not?

IT seems that you have really measured only the evaporation rate of the different carriers in these different products.

And maybe not only that since position on the trunk rel. to the edge of the trunk and sun position might affect the results. You could alter the positions and see if you get the same result tho.

I have to agree, just use wax that does not have the residue issue. There are several brands available. Most all of them are a 2 step product. Use the cleaner then go to the finish wax.
