can a 3.0 w/95000 mi can have 4 broken head studs ??
The motor is for sale ; Is it possible or the owner is trying to rub me ??
What is the market price for a 80 SC engine dismanteled ?? Thanks !! JD |
Four broken studs at 95K on an '80 SC is entirely possible. 1980 cars got second generation studs, and they weren't much better than the originals!

Absolutely possible. Mine had 4 broken studs with 110k miles. Price for a 3.0SC that needs to be rebuilt, I`d say is in the $2,500-$3,000 range, from what I've seen on evil bay.

RS-GT:
A dismantled motor can be a cat in a bag unless you get a clear history from a seller with good reputation. The studs are not the main-issue because they're going to be replaced anyway. What condition is the crank? Standard/Standard? Just needs polishing? Are the cams good? Why is it dismantled? Does it have Nikasil or Alusil P/C's? Are they re-usable? Meaning are they in spec? Especially the first land on the pistons? Can you verify the 95k Miles? |
My 80 had 120K on it when I tore it down, six of the bottom studs were steel, the rest dilivar. Some hack decided to only replace the broken studs at some point early on, and he did a piss poor job of it.

The answer to the question is yes. Mine had 7 broken head studs at only 60,000 miles. My rebuild was considerably more than quoted above, and the rest of my motor was perfect.
