1972 T sell it or part it?

OK here is the dilemma. I have this 1972 T 67,000. Coupe last run in 1991. Complete car with 5 speed, comfort package. It was sitting outside in NM and the interior is fried, rust in the rear window which of course got the rear seat pan, and some in the drivers door. The rest of the car is solid. Original paint (what is left of it) I have not tried to turn the engine over I just know that it had been running before it was parked. When it was parked a new clutch had been put in it and the chain tension ramps were redone. 2 new rear tires were put on (sun rotted now) it has cookies on it (dated 73). Here the question I don’t have the time for another project right now, I’m torn between trying to sell the car complete or part it out. What would you do?

Wow - Sad to see one neglected like that. Parting out is a lot of time and work. You have a lot of communication issues, packing, freight, etc. I think you should post it for sale her and/or Ebay and send it off to someone committed to a restoration.

If it is as you say, and the rust damage is only where you've mentioned, I'd say sell, sell, sell.

I'd say that it's value as a whole may not be much less as parts (considering that it may be very fixable). Not to mention all of the time required to part and sell everything. Plus there's one more long hood around.

My 2 cents.

Sell complete.

If the motor is original to the car then car is worth more complete than the some of it's parts. Specially after you consider the time involved in parting.

Edit: Dooh! "some"? I meant sum

Sell it to someone who wants to restore it. The 72's are unique and are becoming more difficult to find. If I had room I would take it in a second.

That being said. You will make more parting it out than selling it whole. But the time and effort will kick you in the rear.

sad. .

Sad to see it rotting in the sun like that, it's really too bad. A resting spot in a garage would have been a good thing.

However, you can't turn the clock back now.

I'd say sell whole, for all the reasons others have mentioned. I think a committed buyer could do a nice restoration.

I'm on the home stretch of restoring a '72 T Coupe that was in MUCH worse shape than that. Believe me that car is a restorer's dream come true, because it is ALL THERE. Condition is much less important as long as everything is in its place - you can't restore something that is missing, you can only replace it. Not as good. Please consider selling this one whole to someone committed to full restoration. T-cars, esp. 72s, are definitely worth saving in the current market.

Love the color!

Where is the car now? In NM?

I am in Ruidoso right now and might be interested in the car. Owned a '72 as my first 911 and really miss it...
