Dave Shepard (GPR) has passed away...
I'm sad to announce that Dave Shepard (owner of GPR) passed away as a result of a head injury that he suffered about five weeks ago. I just spoke with his family, and he passed away yesterday afternoon / evening. We here at Pelican are all saddened by this tragic news, as Dave was a Pelican friend for a long, long time. For those that knew him, I'll have flower arrangements, and other information in the near future...

Wow, so sorry to hear that. I've dealt with and known Dave for almost 20 years.
I hadn't heard about his head injury. When I spoke with him 5 or 6 months ago, he seemed in a lot of pain from his back and other injuries, and was pretty down in general. RIP our friend, we'll miss you. |

Dave had gone out of his way to help me in the past. I never got to meet him in person, I missed him by minutes once. I wish now I tried harder. We lost a a very good man.
My sincerest condolences. |

Rest in Peace, Dave, you'll be missed.
Short story...I had a 1986 VW Quantum Synchro, and in 1993/94 one of the CV joints in the drive shaft to the rear diff was failing. VW didn't sell the CV joint, but they were more than happy to sell me a $1200 drive shaft, which I declined. As luck would have it, I came across a GPR ad in a magazine and gave them a call. Dave answered the phone and said the CV joint ought to be the same as the one used in the Audi Quatro's. He said he send me the part and if it didn't fit then send it back. Well, it fit. At the time I was living in RI and on my next trip to CA to visit my in-laws I brought some live lobsters to Dave in SLO to properly thank him for helping me out and saving me over $1100. We chatted for a little while and I was able to meet some of the folks working at GPR. It wasn't too long ago his 914-6 was featued in a magazine (Excellence?) and I was glad that he was enjoying continued success. I hope Dave's friends and family seek comfort in the knowledge that Dave positively impacted many people, and the car enthusiast community is better off because of him. Respectfully, Gary |
