Question I installed a Momo Prototipo but,

their is a rubbing or slight scraping sound coming from the plastic cover that goes over the blinker/wiper switches . It doesn't do it in all degrees of rotation, just some area's it rubs.

I'm wondering if in time it will go away with use.

Has anyone ever encountered this before, and if so how did you fix it?

By the way it's a 78 sc..

are you sure it's plastic? my prototipo started making a scraping noise and it turned out that it just needed some lubrication. applied some dielectric grease at the horn contact and the noise went away. should only take a few minutes. if that doesn't work, do a search and you'll find information about the steering column bushing and a scraping noise.

Hi Joe,

Mine does that still after having the Prototipo for a few years. It is hard to tell what specific part is making the noise, though, because my steering wheel bearing is a little squeaky and the mounting bushing for the bearing has some play. I don't want to shell out $200+ bucks to replace the bearing and the sleeve will not work for early cars. The noises are only noticable at rest, though as the motor drowns out all extraneous sounds while driving. It also makes everyone really quiet when I come back. What did you say?

I think the accordion adaptor boot/gator/sleeve thing will make those noises. Is it really that bad, though, with a loud car, windoes down, and the cool look.

Thanks for the response. I did wipe all the crap of the horn contact ring.
I thought it was just 30 years of grime that built up.

I'll try a little dialectic grease. If it doesn't work than screw it. Not a big deal.
Like Max said, you don't really hear it as long as the car is running..

I turned the speedo and oil gauges also after the photo. Much better!

Joe

I don't have the prototipo, I have the stock wheel, but it makes the noise too. As a test, you can try temporarily eliminating the horn ring from the equation if you take your steering wheel off, then remove the contact that is mounted to the clam shell by removing the two screws holding it there. Then put the wheel back on and see if it still makes noise.
