Better pics of the Americans on the 70"S"

Weather was 60 degrees and sunny today, so I gave the "S" a quickie wash and went for a drive!
The first thing that I notice was that the steering effort with the smaller tires was dramatically less. The second thing that I realized was that the traction of the 195/60-15 Pirelli's was nowhere near the traction of my 205/55-16 Toyo's. Oh well, I always have the 16's in the garage if I decide to do some autocross stuff. Besides, the magnesium on the Americans is a HUGE pain to maintain. The shine lasts a few days at best and if you get any water on them when washing the car you have to repolish them. Now I see why many of the guys that have these wheels simply paint them black!! Im betting that the 16" wheels will spend a lot of time on the car this summer.
I am stoked about the looks of the Americans however! They really give the car that RGruppe look. Next on my project list is to try and replace that steel 72 S spoiler with a standard 70S spoiler before we go to Rennsport.

What is the difference between the 72s spoiler and the 70s spoiler? I might be interested in the 72 if your going to change it out. Sam

About $400. The 70S front spoiler is the same as the 69-73 T front bumper. Dime a dozen. The 72-73S spoiler is much harder to come by.

Thanks Noel
Pari, the wheels were made by American Racing Wheels in the late 60s. They are specifically designed for the early 911 and were very common in the American "Trans-American" series of the late 60s.
They are made from magnesium, but aluminum versions were available too. The mag ones are just a little less than 1 lb heavier than a 15x6 fuch but the aluminum ones are boat anchors.

Thanks Cornpanzer, I figured they were early 911 wheels. They look sweet. What motor do you have in the 911S?

It is the original 2.2S motor. It was rebuilt a few years back and a strong runner. I want to leave the car pretty much original and just add a few period accesories to keep in interesting.
