New here recently got a widebody 86 Cab

Hi all !

My names John and I recently traded one of my other cars for this Porsche. After searching the web for a 911 Forum I gave up and started surfing around looking for parts. I came across Pelican and I finally found you guys! I'm sure I'll need your help as I've had mostly American muscle cars other than a 77 924. I believe this car was brought to the USA by a previous owner after what I was told by the ins co. emissions testing station and DMV. Also the Cali title it came with said NON-USA in the upper right corner.under origin. Is there a way to decode the VIN to determine where it came from or other info? How can I tell if it was a factory widebody? The fenders are metal and don't appear to have been installed later. Thanks

Beautiful looking car! Welcome! I hate to be too nosy, but curiosity has the best of me right now... what did you trade for it? I think you got the better end of the deal regardless!

Let us know the VIN, and we can tell you what country the car was originally made for.

Post a picture of the brakes, and we can almost certainly tell if it is a factory widebody. There also may be an option code sticker under the front hood, post a pic of that.

The wheels are not stock for a factory widebody.

I traded this 67 Nova SS pro streeter. Caged, tubbed, transbrake etc with small block. Ran 7.7s 18th mile 1.7 60' times. Oh ya I'm a sucker for cool red cars !

Oh ya the paint on the yellow car was part of the deal. Previous owner is a bodyman so the deal was he provide labor to shoot the Malibu(I did the bodywork) and the Porsche for the 67 Nova.

I'll get the Vin tomorrow and post it. What kind of wheels would a factory car have had?

It would have Fuchs, but in a smaller size than what is on that car.

Do you have a picture of the car from a side view?

Get your car on a rack and look at the tranny as it should have a tranny cooler affixed to it if it is a RoW car. If it is a RoW car, your VIN will be WP0ZZZ...... The wheels look like those made by Sonjay and look like 17x10 in the back and factory 8s up front.

It would have come stock with 16 inch wheels, but much narrower than those.

Can't see the brakes from that side pic, do you have a pic where you can see the calipers (even a tiny glimpse of one of them, front or rear).

RoW ! Thats funny! Been a car guy all my life and this is the first time I've ever seen or heard the term. I may have underestimated the learning curve associated with getting this car! I won't even get started on talking about the electrical system I'm trying to work on without and schematics or manuals! Right side, left side lights? WOW!

Any suggestions on where I can learn more about this car without pestering everyone here with a thousand questions? I can see I'll be using the search function on this forum a lot!

Definitely get the Bentley for your model, as well as Wayne's 101 Projects book. Both are available here...

A ROW sports 231 HP, versus a US only car which is 201 HP, I think. Has a trannie cooler, bigger fuel rails, and the 16" wheels standard. You should have the smaller rear bumperettes in addition to the side turn signal lights, which you have, and the US only cars don't have. Does it have a catalytic converter, or do you not have to worry about SMOG tests in CT? If Federalized, it will have impact beams in the doors which are after market by the importer. Nice car.

What is the significance of bigger fuel rails? Still the same injectors, right?

Welcome - all the way from Sweden!

She looks great!

Ask all the questions you want. There are plenty of guys here who know Porsche better than I know the way around my own house. There are also a very extensive archive. I bet every single question one can come up with has already been discussed multiple times. Try the Search Button!
