Tarnish removal for engine detail
I've searched the posts and have not seen where anyone mentions what they use to remove tarnish from the fan and shroud. Will something like tarnex work?

I use Mother's Mag Polish or Nevr-Dull polishing cloths to keep it nice and shiny...

Once you complete a complete polishing of the fan removed from the car you should be able to do some touch up with a rag and Mothers to keep it nice.
One of many polishing threads here: Joining the polished fan club!

Hey,
The fan looks so good when polished but experience has shown many that magnesium does not hold the shine. What about having the magnesium fan and housing nickel plated? It can be done. See this company: http://www.magplate.com/EN%20Samples.htm let us know what you think. Cordially, Greg

If you dont want any fine scratches and are doing delicate metal polish/cleaning,
Try toothpaste and a soft rag, it wont leave fine scratches and smells nice ![]() |

Either a Dow 17 or Cr-22 treatment seem to be a viable candidate. Both are an anodizing process for magnesium. "The Dow 17 treatment produces a light-green (or greenish-tan) undercoating, about 0.2 mil thick... This is covered by a much heavier, second-phase coating (about 1.2 mils thick), vitreous and dark-green." The Cr-22 treatment produces "green coatings 0.4 to 1.1 mil thick..."
