Bill,
Do you know which cams were added?

Thank you,

Doug

They were a variation on one of 9M's grinds, using max lift and duration compatible w/ stock piston tops. Don't remember the specs off the top of my head, but they were as lumpier than RS but not quite to RSR

I believe Protomotive, Inc. should be able to modify the factory Motronic system to work with these.

They are almost the only ones in this country that can. The beauty of aftermarket is the ability for any one to tweek the maps based on what they are seeing in their car on a given day.

Bill,

A race built ECU would be great.

My understanding is with the Protitech conversion you get the software to burn your own chips.

My thinking is:

It would just be cool to keep the stock Motornics.

The stock Motronics are proven and reliable.

There would be a savings of time and effort from not having to tare the car up for a rewire and to install a crank position sensor.

This would will be an expensive conversion no mater. I believe $2600 for the PMO kit, $2200 for the Protimotive conversion, and maybe $500 net from selling off the stock 3.2 manifold.

It could make for borader market appeal if PMO would got together with Todd or somone and developed a proven turn key packabe that keeps the Motornics and is easy to install in a day. This could be for the 3.2 or 964.

Make it CARB legal and you could have a winner.

Thank you all for your posts and PMs. Special thanks to Richard Clewett for his detailed email.

For my stock 3.0: Approximate cost of the basic single plug throttle body system(ECU, coils, PMO
Throttles, injectors, un-terminated wire harness, fuel regulator, sensors &
connectors, etc.), crank trigger adapter, cam sync adapter and spark plug wires is $6500. Stock CIS fuel pump will work fine for this setup...

Now I have a $# that I can work with.

Thank you again!

Clewett seem to have a few 'ready-made' packages on their site (no idea how 'ready-made' they are) - either with or without twin- plugging

I can tell you that the TWMs have a single vacuum port for each bank. This arrangement will not create a stable MAP signal. I had to drill and install my own vacuum take-offs for each throat in the manifolds.
.

Yep, i had to do the same thing with the vacuum ports. I used the clewett setup, with Tec II also. Never could get it running exactly right. It either ran great on the track, and crappy around town, or the other way around, but passing emissions was a huge challenge every year. I believe the new windows GUI system is much improved from what I hear though.

Almost stock 3.0SC engine with PMO

Hi folk's.
The thread is a few years old now, but here's my build.

1982 3.0 204hp ROW engine, CR. 9.8:1 with the following changed parts.
964 cams timed at 1.55
180hp heads with 38mm ports
Complete Pre -74 Dansk exhaust
Electromotive TecGT engine management
PMO 46mm throttle bodies

It now puts out 215bhp and 256Nm at the wheels. Corrected for 15% drive-train loss the engine is now good for 253bhp and 301Nm at the crank.

I am VERY happy with how it peforms, it just pulls like a train all the way from 2000rpm until the redline :)

Regards
Eskild from Norway.

This has been on my "todo" list for about eight years... That happens when you're a single parent.
So my kids are grown and I'm redoing my "todo" list right now :D

Thanks for the inspirational thread. Good luck.

Not the PMO setup, but a little old school and new ideas that we did in a 73 car @ Rothsport.

Is there enough clearance to clean air filter with out removing engine?

rsscotty 02-08-2014 10:54 AM

Yes, no problem.
