Clunking @ slow roll on my 911SC
Newbie here, I sure could use some input on why my car has a clunking noise when it coasts real slow? BTW both axles are newly rebuilt.

Start with the bolts on the CV joints--could be the rebuilder did not torque them enough and they have worked loose.
If all bolts are tight, it may be the CV itself, even though it was rebuilt.

Less brakes, more gas!

It could also be a loose rear sway bar. When they get loose they clunk when turning. Easy to tighten up!

Transmission differential noise
When I put my 911 SC on jack stands, take off the wheels, raise up the axles level and run the car for a little while in 1st gear. As the transmission is put in neutral and the axles coast down there is a clunking noise eminating from the differential. I put a long screwdriver to my ear and listened to the differential as the transmission went from being in gear to neutral and the sound is definitely coming from the differential. Does anybody have any input as to what is occurring
BTW both axles are rebuilt with new parts.

A chunk could be missing in the ring and pinion....but you would hear it all gears and at different speeds when in different gears.

Clunking has always been CV's for me. I could eventually hear it while driving, most noticeable turning one way or the other but very difficult to pinpoint.
