what are these studs for?
On the rear of my 3.0 83 911SC engine, below the "butterfly" shaped exhaust bracket are two studs that stick out toward the rear of the vehicle...what are they for?

the reason I ask is that I replaced my stock exhaust with a Bursch exhaust and now that I am modifying my exhaust setup again, I can't remember what, if anything those studs were used for. The Bursch exhaust was mounted to the studs I am asking about. Just wondering what their actual purpose was and in particular whether the stock muffler attached to them or not.

The stock muffler doesn't bolt to anything, it nestles against the light gray, as you call it, butterfly shaped support, and then a pair of clamps go completely around the body of the muffler, and over the butterfly, which clamps the muffler against the butterfly. Your Bursch is mounted to the lower engine mount points.
