dC Automotive

Looking for input on good or bad dealings with dC Automotive http://www.dcautomotive.com/ basically do you receive quality used parts and if not do they correct the issue?

they sell used and some new parts.
prices are generally fair but a bit high.
quality varies but they're responsive to complaints
and try to please.
i use them but rarely, usually fellow pelicans can help you out.
and of course there is only one place i buy new stuff.

Lets see how I can put this without sounding rash..A couple years ago I was looking for a Factory Turbo Tail in Excellent condition. Their web site said they had one in stock. I called to confirm that it had no cracks in it, we know how the top screen area cracks on these. I told them I would have to drive a distance and did not want to waste my time on cracked tail, they stated no cracks at all.

I drove down, about a 2.5 hour one way trip, to find out their mint tail had about a half dozen cracks in it in the area I was concerned about. Tail was useless to me as the one I was going to replace only had two.

Not wanting to waste a trip I asked about a Cruise Control cable for my car. Every one was hooked to a servo, which I did not mind also buying if cable was good....But every cable he showed me, about a dozen, had the end where it connected to the throttle was broken, snapped, or just plain missing..

So I wasted a tank of gas, a days time, and some good drinking hours with nothing to show but a lesson learned. They were very polite and apologized for the inconvenience but that did not change the situation..

I am glad some have had good transactions with them, but I only get fooled once.

This is a quote from another thread about DC Auto that I posted on and I got a couple real nasty phone calls from rob about this it is all true that was some time ago so they may have cleaned up there act but I heard they have a minimum order now and the reason I didn't get my parts was because a more important customer wanted the same parts so I lost out. That came right from robs mouth, if you want to be sure you get the parts go to OK. Foreign or here at pelican using the parts diagram you can get everything DC auto can get.

quote by me:
(Nice guys I agree real nice even when they are trying to explain why it been 4 months since you placed the order and you still dont have the parts nice even when you are asking them why it has been 2 weeks since you cancelled the balance of the order you placed 4 months ago and still dont have a credit to your account. Sorry Rob for the bad with the good but you brought it on yourself all you had to do was get the parts to me. If you need the parts and cant go there to pick them out yourself you are better off to go to Oklahoma Foreign for the used and Right here at Pelican Parts for the new using the parts diagram they have and you will get it quick if its available or at least contact from someone if it is not something DC auto never did for 4 months I would not recommend them for a phone or internet order under any circumstance. That is just my opinion you decide for yourself.)

Seconded! I bought a used early fender that they said was ready to paint. I found that under the very nice primer job that there was rust that was improperly repaired so i took pics and emailed them and they very quickly apologized and credited back the freight charges and a bit extra($350 total).

Now I'm not sure that they did the bondo work on the rust, but the situation was handled in a satisfactory manner to me.

My experience has been up and down. They don't do email very well. Sent inquiries and never got a response until I called. Ordered a Carrera sway bar which came bent. They replaced it overnight. I liked one of their reps, Rixter, but he left for greener pastures. My impression is they have a junkyard eye, IE "if is on the shelf, ship it." My other impression is they intend to be honest, just they are not great business men and some of the floor help couldn't tell a Porsche from a milk wagon..

I bought a 71 911 trans from Rob a number of years ago, and was completely happy with it.

I stopped by there a couple of months ago. Very nice facility. Met a couple of folks that seemed pretty well informed Porsche wise.

The owner was not there but the the guy managing the books was overwhelmed trying to update the "business" end of the business.

I got the part I wanted. Tried to bargain with the owner on another bit of kit but was unsuccessful.

Overall, good outfit that I expect will continue to improve insofar as efficiency.

Ordered quite a bit of stuff when I first got my SC about 18 months ago. Found them to be helpful and amazingly patient with me when I was ordering bits and pieces every week or so. A couple of times a small part wasn't useable and they said just keep it and sent me a replacement ASAP. I can understand now why they require a minimum order. Blame me!!

Just got a "complete" rear 993 seat setup with belts and all the hardware and in good shape from Ok. Foreign in 3 days for 350.00 I would go there before I would go back to rob and his band of merry men they act like they care but dont IMHO.

I guess I lucked out because I didn't drive anywhere but I suppose I was fooled once too. Just like 83-911SC Cab, I don't plan to ever do business with them.

I was searching the web for 16X8 Fuchs and one of the Google hits was for their website. They had two seperate sets for a VERY nice price so I tried to order them online. Their listing for the wheels said that they would be shipped for free. When their ordering system tried to charge me freight anyway I called. I spoke to a nice customer service guy and explained about the freight charge being charged anyway. When he looked at the listing on his computer, he said that was interesting and that he'd get back to me. When I didn't hear back from him after a few days, I decided to look on the website and, sure enough, the price for the wheels had nearly doubled! Maybe I should have just paid the shipping and I was being naive. But where I come from, the price is the price. Besides, there's no telling if they would have actually charged my credit card for the price on their website (before it doubled).

They are Better Business Bureau members so if you aren't satisfied, you should complain. I didn't really have any proof so I decided not to complain but there are several other bad experiences with DC listed here on PP. A BBB rap is bad for business. Several raps is even worse. Bad press here on PP or Rennlist etc. hurts them too. Maybe with enough complaints it will get them to shape up and fly right.

We went over there a couple of years ago. Huge place, car after car in varying degrees of disassembly. I wanted a bent wiper arm for my 87 to reverse the wipers. I was handed a wrench and told to find one I liked. I did and am quite happy with it.

Bottom line is that if you can be there to personally choose your part that is obviously the way to go.

Otherwise seems to me that the quality of your part will depend on the individual person who happens to take your part off a car there or out of a stack there.

The owner was nice and responsive- his inventory is simply overwhelming. Warehouse after warehouse of parts and cars.

I think being as specific as possible would be the best way to go.

I've had very good luck with them--parts have been as described. Orders ship quickly. Agree that they could work on the email side of their business. But when there have been questions, phone contact has been polite and effective.

I've ordered brakes, blowers, transmission parts...come to think of it...most of my Targa is used DC automotive parts
