Clutch questions....
I have done the search thing and can not find anything with same symptoms. Short story....hard to go into first or reverse after starting ( leaving the driveway or garage ). There is also a terrible shudder between 1000 and 2000 rpm while letting the clutch out. Now if I let out clutch very slow and give no gas ( keeping below 1000 rpm ) to move around in garage there is no shudder, also while driving if I keep rpm above 2k there is no shudder. The last thing if I come to a stop sign for example, just before stopping completely I blip the throttle it slips right into first.
Hoping mounts...........but expecting clutch time Any advise or word of encouragement would be great Oh ya, 86 Carrera with no mods and 119k miles Brad

Hard to guess at what's going on, but if you want to remedy the problem then the engine and trans need to come out of the car. If you're doing the work yourself, then a clutch job is not all that pricey. But, if you pay a mechanic to do all of the work, then expect a bill over $1,000.

Replace all 4 motor and tranny mounts, use at least the sport mounts, all 4 cost less then $120, simple install and they are all the same, about an hour DIY. Then replace the clutch cable with a new helper spring again a straight forward DIY, i did the above and all the shudder issues were pretty much resolved, make sure your engine cross member at the rear of the enginge is nice and tight, your rear mount attach to this cross bar. a slght shudder is not uncommon on these cars but mine came out really nice, it tightened up the drive line significantlly, the shudder is all but gone and the tranny stays in place with no drive train flexxing. Best of luck.

JP911 - luckily I can do most mechanical work, so if needed I wil give it a try myself. I was hoping it didn't need to come out. That is a winter project.
robert - I think I'll try this first, mounts any way. I don't want to lose any driving time ( summer is to short ). Thanks guys, its good to have someone confirm your own diagnosis. I'll keep you posted Brad

You might want to check the clutch free play and travel first. Then check the routing of the clutch cable in the tunnel and at the rear of the car. I'd also adjust the clevis on the forward end of the cable to lengthen the cable as much as possible, to increase the amount of curvature in the cable housing at the other end. These things are all free.
