Angry Fabspeed Exhaust

Hi all,

Has anyone else got a Fabspeed MAXFLO header muffler kit?
I have just has one installed on my 1980 911sc and would like some comparison with others.
My system is very deep sounding but muffled and between 2000rpm and 3000rpm very very boomy, almost uncomfortably so.
I have emailed them about it but no reply so far
It sounds nothing like the exhausts on there website :

http://www.fabspeed.com/911Carrera.html

Thanks

Gavin

Hi ,

I had one........

It's a very long history , really very long......you can have a look here :

http://www.type911.org/forum/forumread.php?i=97215

To resume , numerous welding issues (heater way-out welded reverse for example) , nothing fits fine , tips are ridiculous (57 mm) , no accessories like silicon hoses........and the after-sale is just a dream............

I finally , after one year of modifications , some welding work.... and euros ,let fall down and mounted a Dansk complete set that fits PERFECTLY !!!!!!

Read this , sended by a member : I'm just seeing this now. Yes , me too, I was "SOLD" by that ''slickster'' , suppose to be the ''finest 930 turbo muffler'' money could by , hence the 'ABSORBITANT" amount. Paid for it, It looked like junk to me, as I have worked in fab. shops , welding shops etc, and after install , and a 5 mile drive the welds off the turbo flange were litterally , "popping'' as the car cooled down. I called Fabspeed , e-mailed them , sent video tape of defective product , and pics. He said I damaged it when I bolted it on??!! then claimed he would repair or replace it when I sent him the "original" receipt ( not a photo copy)?? , so I did. Then he wouldn't take my calls , or e-mails , or get back to me , and then ''hung up on me ,'' when I politely asked to speak to him , as he recognised my voice and then turned on his answering system!! I gave up and rebuilt the muffler. I believe he is sourcing generic cans from over Seas and then here in the US is fabbing up the ins' and ''outs'' pipes , which are as crude as something made in highschool metal shop by a 16 year old.!! He's just ripping off the Porsche community , ( probably things we are all rich and don't know any better) , thans , and feel free to send this e-mail to anyone thinking of purchasing from Fabspeed or give them my e-mail and I'll tell them , Dave

I was recently in a 964RS/CS clone w/ the full Fabspeed header and MAxflow muffler. It sounded great and not at all boomy or noisy. I would love to have it on my car
This one

On the other hand my Fabspeed Muffler kit for B&B is very loud,

Ok, you've seen a bad part, I've seen a good one.

Is this proof that they are all bad? Or all good? Did Joe try to help?

We're two to have had the same problem...........all pics to proove my saying.....it seems to be normal for Fabspeed to have the muffler more hight on a side.....for example.....and more inside on the right.......

The only help were a new pair of headers with the same issues !!!! What a help for a 2690 euros exhaust !!!!!
At this price , it should fit absolutly perfectly !!!

So yes it's prooved.

That's just rests of plumbing , welded by teenagers...........and i stay cool .

A Dansk (or ssi ) fits PERFECTLY !!!!!! and costs less money.

My friend Jean is going to test his RS964 on dino he has done it before changing : 298 hp) , we'll know if Fabspeed is really an upgrade or........that i think.

I have the exact same problem with the right hand side heat exchanger rear pipe connection! It's ridiculously close to the engine chain tensioner. I'll have to cut a small amount off the end of the connection to enlarge the gap so i can get the heater pipe on.

This is the reply from Fabspeed regarding the above issue :

Hi Gavin, I apologize for the imperfection in the piece but after looking at the pictures of the heater duct on the headers, it is sitting at the right angle but it needs to move all the way down on the heater boxes and it will be clear of the timing chain cover for the hose to slide on. This is the correct part, it just needs to be lightly modified. Let me know if you can send back to us to have modified and changed or maybe you can do at a shop near you to save you time and money. We will cover all product warranty and have the part shipped back to you immediately. Let me know what you would like to do.

At least they are offering to sort the problem out.
Unfortunately I live in the UK and its not worth shipping it back so do the
modification myself.

No word yet on the sound and boomy muffler so i've emailed them again regarding this.

Exactly the same type of reply i received when asking explanations........ He apologyse.........

Concerning the heater way-out , you should have cut it-off and re-weld , like this :

But it's not easy to do , it's time and money.....

The headers, apart from the obvious heater connection problem don't seem to bad, my main problem is the crap sounding/boomy muffler.
In the last picture you posted it looks like you might have welded a different muffler onto the Fabspeed headers, or am i mistaken?
If I don't get anywhere with Fabspeed I'm thinking of ways to connect an alternative muffler.

Before I fitted the Fabspeed system I played around with the old system and managed to get a wonderful sporty throaty noise from it that used to pop on the over run and sounded just amazing. Similar to the link below.
That's the sort of sound i'm after.

You're mistaken...or my way of speaking.....

I not changed the muffler BUT ALL THE SYSTEM FOR A DANSK (headers+muffler)

You're searching for a great sound , not too loud , but expressive , don't you ?

A bit like old 911.....

mp in your box please.

That looks like a Flowmaster Camaro muffler they're using. Even welded a Fabspeed plate over the part of the muffler that used to say Flowmaster. How much do they charge for the $162 Flowmaster part? (sorry, I'm cynical about anything Fabiani sells)

It is a flowmaster and you are free to shop anywhere you want, I bought it for the tips that are not availbale elsewhere.

It's a shame that the other guys are on the other side of the pond, it makes dealing w/ issues that much harder.

Just an observation but i've seen B&B and GHL have the same issuues, SH_T happens, as long as the vendor stands behind the product that's all that really matters.

Just a fyi B&B doesn't

Agree about B&B, and not just with Porsche parts either. BMW mufflers and support are second rate too. Been trying to deal with them on a pair of rear mufflers for my V8 X5 for months with no luck.

On the other hand, Ben (M&K) offers about the best customer service one could ask for.

I've just enquired about some M&K Race/track mufflers :

http://www.mkexhaust.com/products/911_rt.php

Anyone heard of any feedback on these or better still links to video clips of them being used?

Cheers
