air conditioner

My 86 turbo 911 uses 2 relays for the air conditioner. One is mounted on the fuse box and the other is behind the dash area someplace. Can anyone give me the exact location?

It's in the smugglers box. Mounted on the front passenger side if IIRC.

Learn something new every day even at 85. The relay is not in the location you mentioned. I had already checked there. The bimedal switch is the only thing in that location. I may be missing something but in looking at my prints for that particular relay I cannot determine where they are picking up the ground for the relay coil.

Hmmm. Is your system stock? The bimetal switch should be behind the passenger side floorboard where the air returns to the evaporator housing.

Smugglers box is in the trunk forward of the passanger compartment. Lift the carpet and you'll see the lid....

It's in the luggage compartment just forward of the firewall. lift up the carpet, and look behind the spare, closer to the firewall there's a hatch. Slide the lock tab thingy, and it will open up. That's where your evaporator is. On the front passenger side of the wall of the smugglers box is where the second relay should be mounted.

Bingo. I was able to locate it with my mirror. The relay was bad. I had a supply of Bosch relays. I stiuck one in and everything fired up. Thats very much for the direction.
