Red face Dropped chain ramp?!?!

Title says it all..

Engine out clean up and tensioner rebuild.

Gee, I'll replace the ramps while in there, and low and behold one of the four inboard got away from me. Obviously not magnetic, so cant pull it out with a magnet.

Its an 82 with the sump plate, can I pull it ou that way? I cant believe I've seen members on this forum recommend this procedure. Seems way too risky especially when the original ramps looked hardly worn.

Obviously frustrated as I'm sure you can tell.

??? Help?? Dont make me pull chain housings... and then what else since I'm in there.... regrind cams..

There is a three fingered claw thing that you may find at the parts store. With a mirror and flash light you may be able to see it. You can also rotate the motor and listen for it but this has the chance to send it in further. Good luck.

I think I might put the motor on a stand and physically rotate it and maybe....... just maybe have some luck using gravity to help.

any thoughts?

I knew there was a reason why I left my ramps alone. I thought it was just me being lazy.

I'd stick a torch and mirror in there before I started tilting the engine. It may be easy to reach now and who knows where it might end up. Good luck.

Go for the engine stand. With patience, and a little luck, you'll get past this in no time.
