Removed A/C - now engines backfires

I don't know if it's possible and if it is could someone explain, but since I removed my A/C today the engine is popping and backfiring on acceleration and deceleration. Do I need to have the timing redone? It ran reasonably fine before this.

Are you sure you didn't knock any (non-AC) hoses loose during your surgery? Not sure if our cars have an idle-speed controller linked to the A/C. If so, that could possibly affect something.

Poked around today and found that one of the spark plug wires had popped off and wasn't even on the plug.
