3.2 supersport - how easy to replace discs/rotors and pads?

Hi folks. I have an '87 3.2 supersport with 930 brakes and I was thinking of spending a few weekends putting new discs and pads on. I've searched for a techical article on how to replace the brake discs, but can't find one. Is it to much of a job without special tools?

Gerard,
Its a simple and straight forward job, with no exotic tools needed.
While you are in there, you may want to think about turbo tie rods, and dot stainless steel brake lines

Hardest part of the job is getting the dust caps off the hubs in the front. The second hardest part is coughing up the cash for the rotors.

re. dust caps - I didn't like how hard they were to pull off so I made this..
has worked fine for a number of years.

LARGE channel-lock pliers will take the grease cap off; take a firm grip perpendicular and wiggle up and down.
Connected with replacing rotors is to decide on replacing the front bearings depending on condition and mileage.
And how are the calipers?
Time for a rebuild?
Sounds like you need the Bentley Repair Manual for Carreras.

Gerard,

Great advice from everyone above,....:)

I would strongly suggest that you have the Bentley Carrera manual on hand as that provides the basic information.

You didn't say how many miles are on your car so its difficult to make specific recommendations however, you should plan on cleaning, inspecting and repacking your front wheel bearings and replacing the inner seals.

Those late 930 rotors (non-floating) are quite inexpensive as are good pads. :)

You will need some basic hand tools and an accurate 3/8" drive Torque Wrench to properly attach the new rotors to the hubs.

what is a 3.2 supersport? Is that a euro designation for a 84-86 carrera or something more exotic?

Sorry. It's the turbo-bodied 3,2 - with the turbo's brakes and suspension.

M491 option

Thanks for such speedy advice. I think I'll invest in the Bentley manual and then decide whether I'm brave enough to give it a go.

Muffler clamps on the dust caps will give you something to lever against to get them off as well.
