Having a bad day!!
This sucks, It could be worse but it still sucks. My Battery install was not a good idea. If you guys see me do anything else stupid feel free to tell me about it.
![]() This ![]() Equals this after enough bumps. ![]() ![]() ![]() Of course the hood cable melted and would not open the hood. I managed to get it open and used a Extinguisher on it. Dry chemical type. Now what? I am going to shop vac as much as possible. What about the effects of this on the fuse box etc?

Looks like the cable tube was rubbing on the positive post. Cable did not melt it melted the weld by the latch.

Wow. That sux.
There's quite a few threads here on building a battery tie-down tray out of sheet aluminum (or even a cutting board!). You also should use proper terminal covers for the battery posts. |

Holy cow that is a powerful battery. Sorry, take a breath and get prepared to make a fun project out of it, it does not have to be expensive just well thought out and planned. Take time on the fabrication. Now you can plan a trunk detail and paint in the future :-)
Is the battery toast?

Battery is fine, drove it home. This is a sealed battery and is going to be mounted on its side with proper covers. I went with the big battery when I switched from two battery's to one.
I am searching for cleaning up the powder. I read it is caustic, do not know if i should hoe it down??

I think you are on the right track with vacuuming it up first...
Get rid of most of it then damp rag it rinsing often, then do a good scrub after most of it is gone.. Make sure you have a good bag in the shop vac, perhaps a hepa. Some of that carbon might come off with a bit of elbow grease. Did it heat through the hoods outer layer of paint?

No paint damage that I know of yet. Mostly black smoke from the carpet. Just worried about water and the dry chemical reaction.

Try to get as much of it up as you can when it is still a dry powder. Once wet it will turn as hard as concrete when it dries.

I sucked up every thing that I could. It was only two small bursts with the extinguiser. I then blew it out and hosed it down. Really, Really good. Now time to start repairing and cleaning, So I can keep driving her untill winter hits us agaiin.

Everyone has done something they regretted later. Just be glad you noticed it and did not loose the whole car.
The trunk cable guide tube does not need to be fully intact for it to still function. If you can not reform it back to a tube shape, you could always cut out the damaged section and just leave that portion open.

Save the link and send it off to anyone who writes in to ask if an onboard fire extinquisher is a good idea.

I got most of it cleaned up, repaired the wires and JB welded the release tube in place. Changed the battery mounting and got the PROPER covers. Checked all the electrical and every thing is good. Now I need a hood cable and carpet. ![]()
