Old member - new toy
Hi All,
I've been around on Pelican for sometime now with BMW cars and motorcycles but I'm new to 911's. After halfheartedly looking for a number of years, I had almost giving up hope that a reasonably priced, reasonable condition 911 still existed around these parts. But... a few weeks back a friend alerted me to a potential good buy. So, after some review and negotiation I'm now the happy owner of what I consider a solid 'starter' 911. 1983 SC Targa. I have some bugs to work out and a few things to correct but overall I think I did okay. I'm sure I'll need a bunch of help from the good folks here but for now, a poor cell phone photo of the new wheels. ![]()

Congrats! Very pretty shade of blue (at least on my monitor).
IMHO, best part of a 911 is that they are not so rare that people are afraid to mod them. I have a decent list of mods & updates that are largely under the skin so that you may not notice unless you are looking or in the driver's seat. Half the fun in my book. It looks like you might have 7" fronts and 9" rears already, which is good if they are Fuchs and not so good if they are fakes. If they are Fuchs it is a sign that the P.O. cared and was not afraid to spend money on the car. You have a factory chin spoiler up front, is there something lurking out back to balance it out? You might check for Turbo Tie Rods (common inexpensive factory upgrade), and Bilstein sport shocks (common upgrade when the original shocks go). For safety sake you should also assess the condition of all rubber fuel lines and replace anything that hints of cracking. The 3.2s are infamous for this, but all older cars of any make have this particular issue. I just did the two rubber lines at the steering rack, PITA but better than a Car-be-Que. Congrats again... Bob

Nothing on the back, but that may change down the road. I believe the Fuchs to be real. Agree on the fuel line replacements. I intend to look at that this weekend along with a small high idle issue and maybe some shifter bushing if they show up in time. Roco |

Nice to see another Targu join the pack! Nice color no matter what. As Bob mentioned... wider wheels are a nice touch. Best to you with SwissBlue Roco!

Beautiful car. I'm guessing it is a ROW car. So more power than the US models. Nice.

Love the blue. Forget show car purist standards, and just work on it, and drive the heck out of it!

Thanks for the kind words guys.
I'm no purist but I think for this car I will try to stay / return to original as possible. In the long run I think original is just easier. I've custom built a few motorcycles and I'm in the middle of a custom Ghia build. The amount of time that goes into trying something new can be staggering. Good thing I'm not paying for my time, cause I'm really, really slow... Part of the reason for buying this one was to have something fun while working on the Ghia and keep my wife happy. So far the plan is working, she is down right giggly about it! RoCo

Nice buy! Euro car or are the headlights non-original? You will have to put them back to the old frog-eye sugar scoops.
